You couldn't make up the bad luck

Nah, I don't believe in luck. It's just variance that evens itself out long term.
Like, those horses you back that lose in heart breaking fashion - Boston Bob falling at the last in the RSA, Valseur Lido unseating in the last when clear in the Leopardstown Gold Cup, Orfevre. They etch themselves onto a punter's heart for ever. However, when you're on the right side of those mishaps, they don't resonate as much. It's just another winner really.
