The return of Constitution Hill rightly takes top-billing at this meeting, but it's very pleasing to see Alan King let Edwardstone take his chance in a handicap off 161. Fair play.

Yes, I think I mentioned the other day that he was still entered for it.

I really hope he's allowed to take his chance. It's times like this that we see what the better [second-season] novices are made of.

Anyone happen to know what was the last Arkle winner make his next seasonal debut in a handicap?

I’d have thought quite a few would have, especially when the Victor Chandler was a proper race. Well Chief definitely did, but not at Ascot

Azertyuiop went to Exeter too. Haldon Gold Cup be another popular route I would think

I think it might have been Azertyuiop in 2003, when he reappeared in the Haldon at 5/4f getting 4lbs from 11yo Edredon Bleu, only to fall at the first. Two runs later he was beaten a neck by Isio (in this Saturday's equivalent race, possibly), off 168 and trying to concede 19lbs.

Edit - yes, Well Chief in 2004. But he was only rated 153 and still couldn't win, beaten a head.

Needless to say I am over the moon with my Jonbon Constitution Hill double but I'm not happy to see Goshen in the field.

The horse is a nuisance with a screw lose so I just hope he doesn't do anything stupid.

I'm sure Nico will steer well clear of him.

In the grade 2 chase we can get some funny results at this time of the year.

St Calvados if allowed a soft lead could steal the race but
L'Homme Presse is very very good.........a watching brief for me.

Beforemidnight will come on a ton from his 3rd behind Thyme Hill and is 8lbs better off this time.
He could pull off a surprise in the 3.15 and be placed or better

Fitness is always a big factor in these early season races. Also hard to bet on the chase without knowing whether Hitman runs or goes to Haydock (first preference is the Graduation chase there, depends on ground).

With an easy looking 26k waiting it'll need for the heavens to open to stop him from going to Haydock I would have thought. Howver in the UK you can be standing at one side of the road dry and it's pissing down 12 yds away at the other side so i get your point:D

If the ground has quickened-up to the extent Henderson is not inclined to run CH, then it's not impossible that L'Homme Presse will also be pulled. With Hitman also entered at Haydock, and Do Your Job running in a handicap today, this could end-up being a match for the £40K winning prize-money. I'll get hit with a massive R4 if it turns out that way, but I've taken Betfair Sportsbook's 15/2 this evening, because SC is surely long odds-on if all he has to beat is Coole Cody.

Wouldn't there be cumulative R4s kicking in?

[Edit - just noticed you mentioned R4. Brain fart on my part]

I looked at this race yesterday and concluded:

We’ll need to wait and see where Hitman runs. Do Your Job is also engaged on Friday so the race could fall apart.

Such a pity I never had the balls to back St Cavados ante post.........If Coole Cody hadn't ran so badly the other day they would've agreed a walkover but PN must be laughing up his sleeve.......St C looks past the post bar a fall
