22 declared for the race I still think of as "The Whitbread."

I think the state of the ground on the separate Chase course might be key.

Current official forecast ground conditions:

Dry Wednesday. Chance of showers through Thursday afternoon and evening. Friday looking dry. Spells of rain possible on Saturday but latest Met Office update suggests the heaviest rain will be after racing on Saturday. On that basis, up to 5mm between Thursday and Saturday the likely total. Temperatures at or below seasonal average (low to mid teens).
Watering: Watering commenced Monday 8 April and continues daily, with the aim of having no ground quicker than Good for racing.

Some of us were there, virtually at the winning post, and still don't understand how they didn't collect on Lettoch.
