Stayers Hurdle

Howard johnson ...inglis drever

You're correct...I could have swore Howard Johnson trained down south but looked it up and he's a geordie
such a pity he is remebered more by the media for being banned than he is for what he achieved as a trainer

inglis drever was a 2 miler and won the Fighting Fifth but showed remarkable staying power and won the stayers 3 times.

Cheers Outsider I stand corrected

Inglis Drever was handy enough at 2m but was kidding himself on at the top end. He was essentially a stayer, with enough pace to win weak Graded events at 2m.

Champ hasen't won the stayers yet and he's not to be trusted even although the opposition for this renewal is decidedly limited
or as they say in France one shyte renewal

Wouldn't surprise me if Willie Mullins didn't take it a bit too easy on Klassical Dream after his comeback win and that's why he looked to blow up.

Once gone Paul Townsend was very easy on him and let him come home in his own time.

Normally you would expect a horse to improve after his first run after such a long lay off and in his case beat the likes of Flooring Porter even easier if they met again.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he truned up at Cheltenham much fitter and in even better condition that he was in the Christman Hurdle and take this lot apart in the stayers.

Looking at the opposition ss predicted Champ is about as reliable as a 2 pound note, Flooring Porter is anything but a superstar, Paisly Park has had his day in the sun .

Thyme Hill is probably the biggest danger if on a going day but I think we'll see the real Klassical Dream return in March and run them all ragged.

Fair! I think his run against Klassical Dream where the starter donated the winner 8l is the best piece of form on offer this season.

It's the best staying form by a mile. I'm just not sure FP can reverse it. Yes, KD was gifted 8L but PP gifted his field more than that yesterday and still beat them. The logic that says FP will reverse the form should also be saying that PP has the 20L beating of 160+ horses so he should be 1/3 for the Stayers' Hurdle.

I suspect KD has more natural speed than FP and he's now proved himself at the trip. I'm not convinced FP will get to the front but if he does KD might be happy to take a lead.

I do think these two are some way better than the others and will probably be the 1-2 on the day.

I wish all the races were that easy.

It’s all a bit topsy turvy. I thought KD was a big disappointment last time and I have a real question mark over him. As for yesterday PP performed miracles, but he was helped by the suicidal pace of the leaders (including Champ) before the final hill. Those two furlongs were run in 12:77 and 13:56 seconds before the hill took its toll. I think Champ did remarkably well to keep it going as well as he did after that.

Ps: ‘course he might be pushed towards the Gold Cup now after CH’s woeful jumping.

Didn't realise that when Barry Fenton (Emma Lavelle's other half) is not able to ride out PP at home, Timmy Murphy does so.

On reflection Champ was trying his best but maybe that is just as good as he is.

I thought when he won the RSA it was more down to the others spitting the dummy out on the day more than anything Champ did.

His next best run was beating Thyme Hill and Paisley Park but a fitter Paisly Park gave him half a furlong of a start and reversed the form

I said he can't be trusted maybe I am wrong and he simply just isn't that good.

I reckon they would need to be stone mad to run him in the Gold Cup which has much better entries in comparison to him
IMO He simply isn't good enough and they are sure to go Stayers where he has at least half a chance of bringing some bacon home.

Aye, should stick to the stayers imo and I still reckon him a contender. He did benefit hugely in the RSA from the others running out of puff and he sort of suffered the same thing yesterday. The way PP ran it must have set tactical minds whirring and must surely show that a steady, sustainable pace is much less damaging than is bursting into a sprint at the wrong time.

To answer Slim ;
Brown Lad 1975. Fav for RSA Chase but race abandoned as day 1 abandoned and a two day Festival of top races plus a few handicaps.
Nomadic Way perhaps; he had been placed in a few Champion Hurdles , how late /early the change came I cannot say
