It's an Australian betting thing. basically almost every pub / tavern has a TAB area. They're esentially a bookies within the pub, loads of screens with racing and betting odds, a bar, tables chairs. There is usually two machines on the bar. So you tick the boxes on a TAB slip and feed it into the machine, then a meber of barstaff comes and takes your money and gives you your betting reciept. A few hundred dollars will move the UK market a little, they tend to allow you to stake to take out about 3 - 4K, so 1.5 - 2k sterling, then they adjust the fixed odds, then you can go in again if you still think there's value to be had, or wait to see if it drifts. They follow the UK bookies quite closely.
They also have a website. They are old school though. It's always 3 places at 1/4 and no BOG. The odds for UK runners tend to be slightly trimmed when 6/1 or less, not always but quite often. At the bigger prices they sometimes offer a bit more. For example when I grabbed the 18/1 yesterday, all UK books were 16's and 14's (though it went out to 25's anyway).
They also have a website for internet betting. I do like being able to walk into almost any pub and place a bet with a barmaid though. I'll take a pic next time I'm down there.
On the downside, you can't do a double or treble etc with the pub. All forecast/tricast are default to exactas and trifectas paying from the pool.
Their website allows you to do 'multis', which is anything from a double upwards (max 10 legs). but max payout is only 100K (£50K).
The R4 down here is also worse is some instances, as in they do have 5p R4's, but sometimes it's better. The other day I suffered a 14% R4, but it was 20% in the UK.
And cut off time for me is 7:30pm UK time. if there's a 7:35 at Windsor, forget it, no bettign available on the TAB, other Australian betting sites do offer all races though, but the walk in walk out cash option isn't there for race after 7:30pm.
I've found a few sites down here that will display speed maps. Basically an expected show oif pace for each runner. I think theyre better than what ATR offers. You'll see one on that link if you click on a race. There's a box at top left of runners 'speed map'. All the bookie sites here do them, as they're all mad on speed, so this feature has been around for a while. Might come in handy for cross refference for you guys.
