The Decs tracker has gone live at the BHA website and the 48-hour decs will be confirmed by 10.45am-11.00am.

The obvious big race is the Sussex Stakes - arguably the biggest mile turf race on the planet - and it's an intriguing one for me this year.

Why?

I seem to recall Slim stating 11/10 (from memory?) Field Of Gold ante-post was a rick for this.

I've never been much up for short prices ante-post - I've done it, had 3/1 Constitution Hill a year in advance of his Champion Hurdle win, but that was rare - as there's the obvious chance of any horse getting injured or being diverted elsewhere.

But "short prices" is crude speak, every horse has its percentage chance relative to its market percentage chance, and I could see where Slim was coming from - the actual odds of a horse getting a knock or switching from an obvious and already stated next logical target are pretty remote (I'd love to see actual stats on this).

Anyway Slim's 11/10 fav was 4/9 when the ante-post books closed and 1.52 to the usual buttons on the machine at market suspension.

Without a dramatic ground change (highly unlikely), I don't see what beats Field Of Gold - or even gets within two lengths of him - tbh.

There are supporting races on the card as well.

The market makers were getting confused between racing managers' comments and actual trainers like John Gosden. Racing managers' opinions don't count for shit — they're just a rollover from colonial Britain to make rich people feel important. Gosden was adamant after the Curragh that he was in no rush to go to 10 furlongs. The Eclipse was never, ever going to happen. The path for a horse like him is simple: Guineas – Irish Guineas – Ascot – Goodwood – York. Or stay at a mile to the death."

Seven declared for the Sussex Stakes.

Carl Spackler Shane Foley
Docklands Tom Marquand
Qirat Richard Kingscote
Rosallion Sean Levey
Field Of Gold William Buick
Henri Matisse Ryan Moore
Serengeti Wayne Lordan

The first two days are pretty underwhelming cards, especially Wednesday's. Take out the Sussex and it's mainly middens/2yos/fillies/mares. Even the opening handicap is worth only something like £75k.

The opening handicap on Tuesday, though, is an absolute belter whether Ancient Rome or any of the other two or three I plan to back wins or not. It's the one race I'm genuinely hoping not to miss.

Field Of Gold has a penalty kick in the Sussex. Let's just hope his approach to penalties is better than Spain's women's team's.

He wins this but I'm far more interested in his price for the Juddmonte. I've seen no news at all yet he was 8.8 for York a week or so ago and he's still relatively weak.

Going stick: 7.2 (today).

Yesterday's times and today's stick are indicative to me of slowly drying ground, no softer than Good.

Rain coming tomorrow, though, possibly quite a bit of it too.

Haven't really got time for write ups but quite fancy Arabian Dusk to run a big race stepping back up to 7f at around 14/1.

In the last I'm normally a billyjoh ho however he's awfully short for a horse who needs things to drop right. There are also 3 horses that I think have a really strong chance. If it weren't for Goodwood being a complete shithouse of a track I'd think Defence Minister was a good thing. First attempt over 7f he's pulled very hard and finished very strongly which to me means there is a lot more to come if they just let him roll. Leadman and Racingbreaks Ryder are the main threats and both have strong claims. I'm weary of having a big bet on a short price in a big handicap so I'll just be having some exotics on the main 3 on all of them and have chanced an ew double with Arabian Dusk and Defence minister.

Good luck.

Find out the all important draw for the Mile on Friday a race that certainly carries an antepost wealth warning especially when your selection gets drawn in the carpark. Game over.

Raining coming Thursday?

I backed Bintjeddah for the 3.45 at 8s after decs....I thought she'd will really appreciate this step up in trip. Got up this morning and she's 18s!!!

Something dodgy about the Haggas stable, a lot of moles. Lou Lou's Gift on Saturday was 13/2 ante-post and drifted to over 20/1. They didn't fancy it. Strange drift on Lake Forest yesterday as well. I'd have had him at 9/2 (admittedly I'm very opinionated) and he drifted to 11s.

We all hear and read plenty about trainers hitting form - what about punters hitting form?

That's why the Racing League would be so much more interesting if the focus was on individual punters, or teams of punters, each with individual input, and not the participants.

Exhibit A - Witness Stand - can Danny turn the screw on the Sussex Downs this afternoon?

Racing has nothing but contempt for punters.

Whilst I wouldn't consider 1 winner a streak in the name of positive mental attitude I'll go along with it. So strap yourselves in as we attempt to go from the outhouse to the penthouse in 5 short days at Glorius Goodwood armed with nothing more than a few loose guesses and a wet dog staking plan !

The more likely scenario of course is....

Arabian Dusk folds like a cheap tent in the last half furlong.

Everything drops right for Billyjoh and he spoils my exotics whilst he makes a sort of Muhaha coughing noise as he goes past the post. Meanwhile James Doyle can still be seen putting restraint so heavy on Defence Minister that any jujitsu master would be proud thus preventing the beast from unleashing his full potential.

Down to Slims Anyway to get me out of the shit, he gets done on the line by the JP hotpot whom my pinsticker JP fanboy friend has had his nuts on and I've told him it's the last horse I'd of backed. So just to top the day I get the I told you so phone call from an utter muppet.

That aside I'm sure we'll be fine.

Tbf if Anyway wins the Galway Plate I won't hear a word against Slim for a YEAR.

HIs dam Emulous was a proper good game mare for D K Weld.
Bluestocking's half brother so has a career as a stallion to boot.
Beckett in amazing form so best of luck to them.
Goodwood can do that .
Only if he has a slapadicktome operation, Ed.

Please, please, please shove your sectionals for the Sussex up your hole. I don’t need Simon Rowlands to tell me water is wet.
