Just think, if Slim had better eyesight, we might never have encountered him - he might be a posh, minted, globetrotting airline pilot with, by now, a property portfolio and people might have been paying him rent, and not the other way round.
Aviation's loss is our gain - one man's meat is always another man's poison somewhere down the line.
Comparisons are facile and generally odious - but is Slim an autobiographical Runyon-esque writer for the 21st century?
