The 2025 Ayr Gold Cup (Handicap)

What do you make of Twilight Calls, Ian?

I think you mentioned him in some way, shape or form last Saturday.

He drifted in the betting didn't he. Have you given up on him?

I think the back form is there. I really do. Can his trainer get him back to his best for this?

I was interested in Twilight Calls on Saturday because I think he barely stays 6f and a switch in wind direction from earlier in the week to a gentle tailwind over a level easy six made it more likely he would get home.

I know he was fifth in the Stewards' Cup, but for me all his best career form has been at 5f.

He's down a pound from Goodwood, but he's a horse I couldn't back until much nearer the day when I know what the draw is and what impact, if any, the windspeed and direction will have.
 
Confirmed entries (which are usually enough to fill Silver and Bronze versions too) early "this arvo."

The Ayr Western Meeting is almost upon us!
 
Just the 201 confirmed entries.

I instructed my Butler Walsworth to research them all by supper as he drove past on his Harley Davidson on his way to the bookies.

I didn't quite catch the first word of his brief reply as he sped through the gates, but I'd be fairly confident the second word was: "Off!"

Interesting to see that although there are 201 entries Karl Burke has only entered three.
However the three Lethal Levi Silkie Wilkie and Korker finished first second and third last year!!!!!
 
For those who have a 365 account available they are a massive standout on twilight calls 33/1 going 20's and 16's everywhere else might end up being another Richard Spencer plunge win or lose. Won his side on the Stewards which has worked out alright hampered last time out decent runs last year with a bit of cut in the ground in a listed off 105 ( off 96 here ) and staying on over a stiff 5f in a Grp3.

So if you can steal a bit of that 33's for your Ayrfolios.
 
Apologies Ian I hadn't seen you'd already put a piece up about him and I know you've said you want to see where he's drawn as such but might lose a great deal of the price if waiting until the day maybe your beard will get you a few sheckels on early.

Reading back through it was Marb who started it so apologies to him too.
 
I'm aware everyone has been waiting for their Favourite Uncle Smart Arse to launch his Ayrfolio and I'm pleased to announce smoke is now rising from the VatIcAN.

At this stage the first mission needs to be to identify a beast that will actually run.

Being tenth in the weights helps.

Finishing third in a 1-2-3 for the yard in the race last year isn't exactly a hindrance either.

Though beaten three lengths, this animal gets to run off a 6lb lower mark this year.

By any measure, this horse is handicapped to win an Ayr Gold Cup.

I wonder if it will be this one?

Korker is the beast in question.

He's now a 6yo and in his absolute prime.

His form figures this season look a bit ropey, but he's shown enough at York, Hamilton Park and Ascot to suggest he retains his ability and he seems impervious to conditions underfoot.

He's still 33/1 in places and I've dispatched Walsworth on the Penny Farthing I bought him for Christmas to take a tour of London's betting shops to snaffle all the double carpet.

Mind you, that was hours ago, he still hasn't returned and I just noticed a Penny Farthing with a "Buy It Now" tag on ebay being sold by a vendor called "W Alsworth" - outrageous!

I thought this was code for a return to form from the top weight Annaf, then I read on.
 
I will be interested to see how last years Silver Cup winner Alfa Kellenic runs.
It won the race off a mark of 88 from an opening mark of 70.
It then ran in a listed race at Newmarket with Ryan Moore in the saddle on very soft ground even though it's trainer at the time Craig Lidster insisted that it would not run on soft ground.
Now trained by Ivan Furtado who has moved into Eboracum Stables it will take its place in the race without a prior run.
Wether this is a bold move or a foolish move only time will tell.
 
Your Favourite Uncle Smart Arse is adding a second string to his "Ayrfolio" and will be holding a TH press conference on this thread to release the name of this lucky beast once the declarations are finalised in the ante meridiem (that's "morning" to the great unwashed - like Walsworth).

People have been saying Jordan Electrics has been aimed at this because of connections. Ive taken no notice basically as its a 9yo and i thought there would be a few horses at least better handicapped than he is. However can lightening Lauren strike twice ? They've jocked up Lauren young 7lb claimer who won the Portland last week on a similar straight forward front running type. Consider this, current favourite Northen Ticker runs under a 5lb penalty, and Jordan electrics picks up a 7lb claimer i think Northern Ticker also lost 1lb of his 3yo allowance. As if im reading it right Jordan is 13lb better off with the jolly for a one length defeat on their most recent outing at York and is 28/1 for this.

Who is "Jordan" and what sort of "Electrics" has he/she? got? - We need to be told, surely?

Anyway, declarations might be a bit later than usual this morning what with filling this race, the Silver Cup, the Bronze Cup, the draw, and fitting in breakfast, elevenses and brunch in and around all that.
