The 2025 Cambridgeshire (Handicap)

It's a lovely sunny mid-September morning here in Outer Old Basing, Hampshire, and Your Favourite Uncle Smart Arse is contemplating this mile and a furlong feast.

Arisaig catches my eye.

I'm no fan of the yard, but she's run a couple of decent races in Handicaps at Ascot and Sandown Park this year and outran her OR in Pattern company last time out.

She might have been flattered there, but she keeps doing her best work at the business end and that extra furlong might suit.

66/1 (bigger to machine buttons) would appeal, as she's guaranteed a run if confirmed tomorrow and declared on Thursday.

BUT....she isn't jocked up yet and she holds an engagement on Friday in a black type event.

So I will just have to WAIT, which means no aftertiming about back board prices if she rocks up in this on the day!

Towards the top of the market the price differential between Treble Tee and Tribal Chief is ridiculous based on their running at Goodwood in August and I quite fancy the latter at around 16s. A lot of the others at shorter prices (Fifth Column) excepted look badly handicapped.

Nail on the head, and after last night's study, I really couldn't have said it better myself. I see Bet 365 are ducking Tribal Chief too. Denise only goes 11s.

I looked at the race briefly saw treble tee and decided to stop looking I wouldn't want to be against him. That looked like a solid handicap he was in last time. I couldnt see why he was favourite that day I thought his previous form wasn't up to much but certainly looked like the penny had dropped when he completely blew them away. 4lb penalty shouldnt be enough to stop him.

Greek order 14/1
Also done Real Gain 25/1.
As I've said before,I put this up at 33/1 for the Royal Hunt cup and it shortened in to 6/1f but never figured.2024
Last time he ran a cracker in the golden mile after 12 months off.
Has won over c /d

Also done Orandi 40/1 but don't know if Tony Martin will send him over.
Won the Irish Lincoln and 3rd in our Lincoln.
The last twice its been ridden by a 10lb claimer which would be interesting if he's jocked up again.

I'd look again Danny, Cash would have been much closer if that fanny hadn't been riding him. He's much too short for this race and not only has Tribal Chief got the beating of him he also has very solid Rowley Mile form. His run behind Bullet Point at the Craven meeting was ultra eye-catching.

Excitement mounts ahead of today's confirmed entries.

Looking forward to seeing a multiplicity of "Camfolios" as the week unfolds.

Theory of Tides runs, I'll be on him. Thought he should've won Saturday ( frustrating was on at 12s ). Circumstances did for him slightly as he didn't get enough cover + was in front soon enough before being mugged by the winner from the stand side rail.
Lightly raced. I think there is a fair bit of improvement to come, after being gelded.

The 66s has gone and no, I didn't take any of it.

If she's taken out of Friday's race on Wednesday morning, I'll think about it, but I'll probably wait for final declarations now.

Gosden appears to have a strong looking team, so I'll wait till the decs on Thursday, ie Theory of tides.
I will have a little ew on Dutch Decoy at 66s. Well handicapped on his efforts season before last.
Billy the kid is jockey up on Westbridge
W.Buick on fifth column
Gosden has won it 5 times and is leading trainer and only 2 3yr olds have won in 10 yrs and both were trained by him.

Maybe of interest
18 of the last 23 runs have come from a double digit stall and 9 of the last 10 from stall 21 or higher. The average winning SP in the last 23 years 20/1
T%M

Rather boringly, I'm struggling to see beyond the jolly - if it is as effective over the ninth furlong I don't see what beats it.

Don't actually fancy Gosden's 3yo that much - think its stable mate might finish in front of it.

Exciting news....after being locked in my Hampshire fastness for most of the evening, taking stick readings, wind directions, sending drones to monitor the Rowley Mile (plus the furlong that immediately precedes it) and having a stand-up fight with my data model - which almost electrocuted me before I pulled the plug out - I've found one to take on the jolly with!

When it inevitably wins, I've promised an exclusive interview here on this thread some three days hence with Walsworth, Chief Gambling and Flatulence Correspondent for The Prole On Sunday.

The name of the beast?

This is a horse who might not quite be the best handicapped in the race, if you go back to the dawn of time with all their career form, but it would still be among the better treated.

I like a horse for this brutal 1m1f cavalry charge who stays 1m2f, but has the speed for a mile.

And it is shaping up to be Good to Firm, which shouldn't be an issue.

I've got in mind a 6yo who should be in his physical prime, has a racing weight of 9st4lb and a less-than-insurmountable OR of 101 to run off.

I was there at Sandown Park to see this animal run subsequent Irish Derby winner Westover to a short-head in the 1m2f Classic Trial as a 3yo and he ran a stormer on Town Moor at 1m last time out.

"But how the actual f%*& can he beat the jolly you couldn't see beyond earlier TODAY, Ian? It beat him pointless, is progressive and is only a few pounds worse off!"

Good points, well made.

But it's all about the PRICE.

The favourite isn't "forced" (as Hull bookmaker and pro punter Nigel Culbert used to say) to stay the 1m1f, it's got prospects on pedigree, but it's not a given.

Plus CASH (for the grey gelding is THE ONE) got a debateable ride off Jamie Spencer.

I appreciate Spencer was seeking cover from the headwind, but he went all over Town Moor looking for shelter, in fact, at one point I thought he'd end up in the Arndale Centre down town or on Doncaster Rovers' old pitch across the road.

Spencer off, David Egan on - arguable upgrade.

And my beast is four times the price of the jolly and, if you're one of those low moral fibre, each-way merchants, there are more extended places than you can shake a stick at.

Here is a summary of that tragic essay for those of you that value your time: Cambridgeshire chat—fav Treble Tee, some fancy Tribal Chief/Cash, 24 runners, ground matters.
