Quite sickening isn't it. This ITV documentary tonight really reinforces it.

While our relatives were dying, the Tory powers that be were swarming and overflowing with dodgy business deals selling PPE from central government and tax payers money, lining the pockets of the Tory aristocracy in the process.

Forget the boats, forget the European Court of Human Rights, forget dodgy Turkish barbers, forgot 'wokeness' , can anyone in their right mind come on here and seriously defend what happend during the pandemic? Does anyone believe these people can be trusted to protect the vulnerable and ill?

It feels like white collar crime of the highest order.

I’m afraid that, when it comes to politics people have very short memories. Except for some things that stick ( imo unfairly) eg the white van man comment and the LibDems with tuition fees. There’s a thread in another forum I frequent looking back at Boris Johnson with affection

If politics was purely a pantomime and the best performing actor or artist would win, Boris would win everything.

It was no surprise that a serious matter like Covid became his downfall.

I have always regarded conservatism as the politics of self, so nothing any of them ever do to line their own pockets surprises me.

What I find disappointing is when Labour MPs behave badly because they are supposed to be about others and I expect better from them.

Politicians are definitely not all the same, or all as bad as each other, but too many MPs generally go native when they get into power.

Yes, regardless of which party, wrongdoers should be called out.

That said, I couldn't personally compare or put on the same scale, say what Angela Rayner did, to what was going on with PPE contracts.

One was foolish, the other a total and utter stitch up to secure millions of pounds of contracts while the population were dying all over the place.

Couple of interesting documents on this:

PPE: What actually happened during the first wave? – Full Fact which details how the PPE "shortages" were recorded

And the second which I found in my rabbit hole I went down about Jin Sahota who seems to have escaped pretty lightly. This is his evidence from the enquiry and it's remarkable as CEO of the new NHS Supply Chain just how much he can't seem to recall. Anyway he got a nice pay off and has waltzed off into another highly paid jobs. I never understand how these CEOs move from one industry to another seamlessly despite having zero experience. Bit like those who come into run the BHA having never attended a race meeting in their life.

Or football managers who don’t achieve ( after about three games) get a huge pay off and walk straight into another job.

That’s what made me give football manager to my careers “advisor” as my second choice when she told me I “couldn’t be a jockey, here’s a leaflet about being a secretary” - you can go in, be rubbish, they sack you but still give you a massive severance payment - sounds pretty good to me 😆

I said my ambition was to be a little old lady living in a cottage with lots of cats and dogs. Or a window dresser…( I’ve got a carton of it back home that someone did for me over fifty years ago…when I get home I’ll see if I can post it). I ended up as a filing clerk…

Football managers (and football players) are often targetted as being vastly "overpaid" because they are in the public eye and what they are paid is often public knowledge.

I'd argue that at least managers and players offer entertainment to the public, whereas the often faceless individuals who operate in the world of finance offer zero entertainment or pleasure to the public and often trouser far, far, more.
