Amateur Jockey Races Thread

So, the 4:20 at Wolverhampton tomorrow.

Three qualifying jockeys, and the best one - our man, Eireann - is riding the two-time course winner, First Greyed at 10/1. The other jockeys, who have also ridden winners recently are riding more fancied horses - Zambezi Magic and Le Pelerin

I’m nine points up - I’m going to be greedy.

3pts win First Greyed

4.5pts Combi forecast, all three horses.

I've done Le perrin 10/1.
Zambesi magic won on heavy going last time.
First greyed is worth a go at 10s
Good luck Len,going well so far.

We didn’t really get a look in, aside from Le Pelerin placing at 10/1. Winner was the second string for the trainer responsible for First Greyed.

Plus 1.5pts

Monday 13th: the 1:52 race at Musselburgh is the nine-runner Ray Hawthorne Memorial Amateur Jockeys' Handicap over nine furlongs. Mr Cagney rides Triple Force ( 11/8 ) for Craig Lidster.
He does indeed, Jayhawk, and that’s where my 3pts are going.

Believe in Lies for the ew backers for an in-form trainer.

The 17:05 at at Redcar on Friday is our next race.

It looks like our man Eireann Cagney is available to ride the favourite Hashtagnotions.

The horse is in good form (41312), but caution may be advised here, as he’s finished second and third from last, in his only two visits to Redcar. It’s also his first try over 10 furlongs on turf.

I’ll have a proper study on Thursday, and share my staking plan accordingly.

Update: the horse has just finished a very close 5th at Lingfield.

Update:

Hashtagnotions has not been declared, so Eireann is now on Epicurean Lad. Absolute scenes!

Looks like a 10-runner race, and all horses have been claimed by a jockey. No prices up yet, so I’ll be back tomorrow when I have more info to play with.

Both losers.

It actually looked like a poor ride from our crack amateur jockey, but he would have been under trainer instructions, surely. The horse went off too quickly, and finished last. Innse Gall was never involved.

The field finished strung out like the washing - it was a typical amateur riders’ race.

3.5pts ahead.

Edit: I see the post-race race comments mention that Epicurean Lad took a strong hold, which would explain the sudden capitulation in the final half mile. I watched on the screen of my phone, so I didn’t pick this up.

Our man Eireann did not ride a bad race, after all.

13:55 Bath tomorrow.

Only one real qualifier: Fletcher Yarham, with a 1-1 record in the last 14 days. The horse is a 22-race maiden - can our boy eke out the necessary improvement to push and shove WANNABEAWALLY to his first win?

2pts win at around 4/1.

No relevant jockey form to assess, for tomorrow’s amateur race at Exeter.

Next race is a steeplechase at Ludlow on Thursday.

Err, Aintree Foxhunters' winning jockeys James King and Will Biddick, 2024/2025 Point Season Men's Jockey title runner up (to King) Josh Newman, Tim Vaughan's promising son, Ed?

"No relevant jockey form" - really?

From the past 14 days, yes.

The thread looks for the ‘shortcut’. I don’t know these jockeys of whom you speak. I just back the horse whose jockey has relevant form over the previous 14 days.

Well, if you don't mind me saying, in the same way I question Walsworth's trainers in form system seeming to operate 30 days in arrears, I have to question assessing jockeys on their form in the last 14 days.

A top rider in their sphere can have a fortnight off then have to prove themselves all over again.

Tomorrow's Exeter race is almost a Who's Who of the leading UK Mens Jumps amateurs around at the moment - I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks for that, Ian, and of course you’re right. But for the purposes of this thread, I’m sticking to the ‘14-day’ rule, as published in the RP.

The Exeter race you have Biddick, Newman and King - the three most talented jockeys to grace a point to point course in recent years. Plus Ed Vaughan who was leading novice rider. But the favourite is ridden by Richard Upton who has yet to ride a point winner from 15 rides (he has ridden one winner from three starts under Rules).

I'm going to say that the other four are more superior to him. But it's a dire race, IMO. I remember the favourite winning for Anna Johnston and she gave it a good ride as it's not the easiest. So perhaps it will go well for an inexperienced rider. The top one would probably be my pick as it's a course winner, Ed Vaughan can claim 5lbs and it's back with the trainer (who's a dodgy one) who won three race with it before including here.

Not a race I'd contemplate having a bet in though.
