Because I couldn't find a thread (which was a surprise) unless I am being dim...

Anyone else fancy anything?

I am drawn towards Hamsiyann in the Paddy Power International Hurdle on the Saturday (3.30)
  • Won this last year easily (2-1fav)
  • Hasn't won since
  • Went to Aintree and got badly hampered by a faller
  • Went to Punchestown and got badly hampered by a faller
  • Went to Listowel (Flat) - "always behind" ridden by a 7lb claimer
  • Went to Galway (Flat) - "towards read throughout"
  • Trained by the dodgiest trainer of all, AJ Martin

I'll just keep chatting to myself then.... 😁 (obviously when the decs are made you'll all pile in...)

Couple I have spotted so far in the fact that they are both ex-pointers who'd had one nice win under Rules but then went to the Festival and it was probably a bit soon for them so they were put away. And both Paul Nicholls inmates:

Just A Rose 1.10 Friday - won a point for Tom Ellis before ending up in the Mare's Novice Hurdle where she jumped poorly. I think she is much better than that.

No Drama This End 3.30 Friday - he was super impressive in his point win at Badbury Rings and had multiple judges drooling over him from the moment he stepped foot in the paddock. He duly won his first start under Rules easily but then went to the Festival bumper where he finished 9th - probably not a bad effort.

I'm waiting for the 48hr decs on Thurs but at the moment I'm most interested in the Saturday 1345 Paddy Power Arkle Challenge Trophy Trial Novices Chase (Grade 2) (Registered as The November) (GBB) (1) 4yo+ : Prize Money £44580.00

Similar to Pawras im holding fire for the 48 hour decs. Tbh I find Novice races and Juvenile races an impossible guesswork task at this point in the season without even attempting to look at them prior to final decs.

I had mentioned in the Sholer chase that I thought Jon Bon was ridiculously short at 2/5 best 1/3 in places it seems the market is starting to agree as he's 4/6 now and a lot of horses shortening up against him. Liberty Hunter seems to have attracted most support. My pick Matata is pretty friendless but thats probably because of the dual entry.

I think you're on the right track with Hamyisann we were there last year when he went off ridiculously short on anything he'd shown and bolted up. Obviously higher in the handicap this time around but wouldn't be at all surprised to see him repeat the performance if being sent over. William Hill going 10's I think they'll regret that if he's there on the day can see him being well punted if nothing else.

Another but this is on Sunday in the first (1.15) Soldier Reeves - another Skelton inmate. I flagged it up here after I went to Newton Abbot and it was beaten in the bumper. It totally shouldn't have been as 'Arry anchored it out the back but got zero run up the short straight and ended up third. It absolutely should have won. Also I have it on very good authority they thought it was a cert that day before going on to a better race at Cheltenham or Newbury.

Got some notebooks out, but haven’t had a good look yet.

2:20 Friday Be Aware - 30/10 Good chase debut win by Be Aware who jumped well and although Grandeur Dame had led for a long way and into the last where he fell Be Aware hadn’t been really asked for much at that stage. Good by them both.

3:30 Saturday French Ship - 11/10 handicap debut, had been racing third, moved up to challenge three out looking to be going well when stumbled and came down shortly after the fence. I think he’d have featured if he’d stayed up. 24/10 won impressively. Won’t take him out yet until I see what the handicapper’s done.

Same race Gold For Alec - 24/10 held up at the back, easily the slickest jumper and finished second fastest of all just being denied second by a head.

12:35 Saturday Premier 4/11 A very nice educational debut. He raced at the back end despite an obvious desire to get on with it and was soon miles behind where he stayed until James Bowen gave him his head around three out. To close up into fourth (almost nabbed third) from that position was impressive and he’ll be of interest next time,

And what about Soldier Reeves on Sunday - didn’t he go in your tracker jj.

PS; oh, you’ve just posted about that one

Yeah I stuck him in Jumpers to Note last season so I am glad they like him too! Bit annoyed after all that, I forgot to put him in my Ten to Follow although I did stick him in the List.

I'm trying now to get ahead before the 48 hour decs. I've had a look at the early races Juvenile's aren't really my thing and I can look at the opener on Saturday and think good luck with that project 2 market leaders ex French and I can't seem to find any footage of them. James Owen who had the best horse by a country mile in this last year has 3 entered. The only horse I've had a look at in action thus far is Cromwell's Secret force and he certainly looked like a force to be reckoned with on debut hurdled with fluency and finished in a style that says he'll relish the Cheltenham hill and he won't have any issues with the ground the softer it gets. Plenty of potential in here but they'll have to be pretty decent to beat him I reckon. The stayers amateur race is another tough one and I hold no solid opinion as yet on it we have the 1-2 from last year Transmission and Java point and in it as well as a bunch from the opening fixture's corresponding race of which the Gordon Elliot trained Beaufort scale who looks like he'd benefit from more testing conditions the way he flew home but Regarde who was closely matched with him there is entitled to come on for the run that being his first run since a wind op. Novice chases aren't for me either. But I think July flower is opposable. Burdett Road makes it debut over fences and set a decent standard over hurdles. Burdett was closely matched at this meet last year by Be aware in the Greatwood and Be aware has match fitness on side and has had the benefit of having jumped a fence in public at the current prices I'd probably favour Be aware although I'd be happy enough to go the exotic route against July Flower.

The race that has caught my attention most is the Paddy power intermediate hurdle. I've had a look Through some of the market leaders. Current favourite Juracon is failry impossible for me to assess as he's never been over a trip this far his 2mile form doesn't add up to a great deal at first glance and this is going to be a very tough assignment first time up and here's why.

Hamisayn

Last years big gamble and winner returns off a 10lb higher mark. The supporting cast that day Long draw from a mark of 117 finished the season off on 138, Wonderful eagle only had 2 runs after but went from 117 up to 128, And Wyenot won it's next race by 9 lengths and went up 9lb. As races go that's as solid as it gets and the fact he won very comfortably that day makes the 10lb rise seem workable.

Royal infantry

I made a point that the Silver cup at Chepstow always seems to produce a host of horses who go on to better things. Royal infantry finished 3rd there staying on well over the 2m3f to suggest an extra couple of furlongs and a hill will be right up his street and once again he'd be entitled to come on for the run. It hasn't been long since the Silver cup but already the 2nd and the 4th have come out and won and 6th Take no chances came out and ran Strong leader to within an inch of his life in a graded race at Wetherby. Once more the form looks solid and as said up in trip and race fitness on side this is another serious contender.

French Ship and Bowens on fire

1st and 3rd here in a big handicap in October split by a decent yardstick in Navajo indy last seen rattling home for 3rd in the Betfair hurdle, that along side the time and the fact they were strung out like the washing in behind again gives the form a solid look. It was French ships first completed start of the season and won with plenty in hand running around a bit on the run in showing he'll most likely improve again form the experience. Whilst it'd be hard to say that Bowens on fire could reverse that being only 6lb better off I certainly think the extra furlong here and possibly more testing conditions would be in his favour as he kept on well and seems to strike me as more of a grind it out type than French ship who's seems to have the ability to travel and have a bit more turn of foot at his disposal. If the gorund does stay decent enough then i think French ship will uphold the form if it gets more testing then I'd think it puts Bowens in with a shout either way I don't think there will be a great deal between the pair.

Put that against current favourite Juracon who's never seen a trip like this, nothing from behind him on his last win has done anything to advertise his form and he comes here first time out and quite frankly I wouldn't trust David Pipe to get my bath ready. I'll wait for the decs to go through the rest and hopefully there aren't too many flies in the oinment. If Juracon holds his position in the market on the day I'll be exoticing the shit out of at least 3 of the 4 I've mentioned against him and will throw the 4 in should conditions be testing.

Tbh it means quite a bit to get any positive feedback. Obviously I started a bit of a comeback about this time last year when I was starting Diary of a fool which sort of went wayward with a few of the petty squabbles going on with the forum at the time. Since then my old man has been diagnosed as terminal, my mother in law as such died which has meant my Mrs is caring for her dad in between working and with numerous other little disasters and set backs throughout the year I've never really got going.

I've took a bit of time off from work this week and I've been sober for a few days (maybe 2) if only to give my liver chance to breath before the weekend. Most the year round when I've thought about doing anything productive outside of work I've just thought f%*& it and cracked another beer. I'm looking forward to going racing the weekend and for the first time in a long time I've enjoyed having a look through the form and also doing a few posts on here has kept my unquiet mind occupied which is a difficult task when I'm sober. I'm pretty much as rock bottom mentally as I get in life obviously I'm alright financially and have all the normal stuff but most of the time these days i just feel like a dog who's had his nuts cut off.

Racing tends to stimulate my brain even though admittedly i'm swinging in the dark because the last time I was punting with any intent was probably 2018 so I've no idea of most of the form. I think I'm ready to start turning things around I'm just over a back injury that's plagued me for the last 3 months so I'm hoping after Cheltenham this weekend I get sober myself up a bit get back down the gym and start to get my head back into the form books proper. Hopefully that leads to me contributing to the forum a bit more and give me some time to get my head back around things and hopefully I'll start giving a few of the others on here a run for there money in the finding winners stakes.

So appreciate the comment Barjon.

whereas mine is crisp, clipped Cheltenham enunciation - like the old BBC broadcasts in the 1950s........

No I promise I'm not quite that bad :)
