The remaining November Meeting races at Cheltenham

There is now an amber warning in place at Cheltenham racecourse, from Friday midday to 11.59pm. "Storm Claudia is expected to bring heavy rain leading to flooding and disruption on Friday

18 declared for the 1.30 at Cheltenham on Saturday, I think I've got something for this, but I want to see the full jockey bookings, a first show of betting and get a better handle on what the weather's actually doing before making up my mind.
There are a few in this that could interest me at the right price, but, among those, and looking at the odds on offer thus far, the 40/1 Hung Jury catches my eye.

This 10yo didn't run too badly at the last meeting, was only beaten 12¼ lengths, and is 2lb lower here.

Sean O'Connor is a rider I consider good value for his 5lb claim in the context of these races, but James King is hardly a downgrade.

King is an exceptional amateur, better than some professionals in my book, and was on the horse when it beat the talented Highway Jewel in the Chaddesley Corbett mud two years ago.

A winner over 4m110yds at the Hunters' Chase meeting here in May, it can rain as much as it likes because this beast will stay every rain-soaked yard of the 3m1f.

No need to thank me when it sluices in, I'm all about helping drunk little bald fellas fund getting the best legal representation money can buy when they're up before the Beak at the Cotswolds Bloody Assizes.

JinnyJ as you are aware on Pointing Pointers I post a list of all British Pointers that have run during the 2024/2025 Between The Flags and are entered at racecourses in Britain. I do this daily and whenever possible work 2 days ahead so here are two that are running at Cheltenham on Friday annd the PTP course they last ran at :

Cheltenham 13:10 El Capitaine Edgcote 10/1 available
Cheltenham 15:30 Fountains Blenhein Larkhill 6/1 available

I am sure that these two would not of escaped your attention ;)

I will do the same again for Saturday and Sunday if you feel that it contributes something to your thread.

Think this an interesting spot Gordon.
El Capitaine is 7 from 8 pointing for Josh Newman and Kayley Woollacott and has also bagged a 2m5f hurdle under rules. I was there when he won at Chipley Park and anything that manages to gallop up the Chipley Hill in the testing ground over 3m (he beat the David Pipe trained Royal Defender on that day) will get up the Cheltenham hill over 2m5. He also has the assistance of Tiernan Power Roache who spent some time in partnership with Chris Barber bringing horses over from Ireland to win pointing before selling them on and they did well together. He's a conditional who has ridden prolifically in Ireland (48 winners) so I think they make a nice ew option.

Here are the horses for Saturday that have run in Point to Points 2024/2025 season:
13:10 Take All Milboune St Andrews 12/1 available
13:10 Hung Jury Chaddesley Corbett 25/1 available (was 40/1 last night)
16:00 Edith Pelham Sheriff Hutton 9/1 was sold from pointing to current yard for £180K

Will look tomorrow for Sunday's

Could be a getting out bet for you then Danny ;)

Cheltenham 13:10 Rian (pronounced RYAN) Corcoran on WALKADINA another from PTPing last year is well worth his 10lb claim trust me  currently 6/1 :cheerleader:

Call me a dreamer if you like but I was kind of hoping not to be in a position that needs getting out of 😂

It'll be a quiet Friday for me only proper interest is in the Shloer and ill probably just have some small multiples to pass the day but dont worry I've been taking notes.

This is an intriguing race. Will the jolly stay? Will the Nicholls horse be as good as Harry seems to think? I don’t think it would be the first time he and PFN have talked one up that disappointed on the track

And it’s not just a two horse race with Great Fleet lining up off a good run at the Showcase meeting amongst others.
King’s Bucks looks overpriced to me here- made a couple of mistakes especially at the second last on hurdle debut at Galway but stayed on well just didn’t have the pace to go with a couple of out and out 2 milers in front. Will surely improve for the step up, won’t mind the ground and Darragh taking the ride is always a plus

These early season novice hurdles can often be trappy and some may prove too good but 16/1 is big enough to have a second look

I'm waiting patiently for the crafty bumper man to turn up.

Someone posted up Seo linn last year 12's and it went off 5/2 and to the 30,000 strong chant of Gwan Billy ! It duly obliged. I have a feeling it was one of our older wiser and quieter members I'm thinking Archie failing that its Edgt or Grey.

Come from behind the curtain and bless us with the winner of the "get out of the shit on Saturday" bumper stakes

If you'd be so kind.

I have just had a quick at the bumper. I think the ground could be hard work for them by the end of the day and several are lightly raced. So looking outside the obvious (and paddock looking will be important as I will be there - possibly propping up an inebriated forumite..) I am wondering if anyone from the Emerald Isle has any intel on John McConnell's yard? His mare, Amina, is 5 so stronger plus she's had 3 runs (yet to win but looks to be improving with her runs) lots of soft-ground pluses on the dam side (German blood and Pivotal both which scream mud to me) and she's by Zarak who also handled the soft. And she's a half-sister to Altobelli who was pretty useful for Harry Fry.

I suspect the only likely way to have any chance of nailing the bumper winner will be to go in on the back of a Jinnyj paddock watch. I might have to brave the anticipated biblical-level deluge just for that pleasure.

I have a suspicion John Dawson's Shinealight might outrun likely odds if looking up to it in the parade.

In between chatting shit I've taken a look at the lucky last . OK Alphonse is thrown in on flat form but his old hurdle form is still in the book 0-7. The Skelton horse also has claims but needed first time headgear last time to to prevail and not by much. Alphonse could bolt up or just simply down tools. Skeltons horse would be more reliable to be on the scene and should be there or thereabouts.

The same could be said though of both French emperor and Lucky bere who came from the same race last time out and both took the eye but in a very different manner. French emperor traveled like a dream throughout made a bit of a mess of the last hung a bit on the run in until Bowen straightened him out and he went on to see it out well. Lucky bere on the other hand got a bit outpaced before rallying late on finishing strong. The ground at Worcester that day looked a lot softer than described so hoping tomorrow's surface doesn't pose a problem. Taking into account the greater stamina test tomorrow it might be hard to split them although personally I think Frenchy will uphold the form. The way I rate that race they are not too far behind what Fortune de mer has achieved and they are entitled to have come on from that. It was Lucky beres seasonal debut and first run since a wind op. For French Emperor it was seasonal and handicap debut and only its 4th run under rules. Trainer Nicky Martin has had 4 winners from 4 runners this season so is bound to flag up in Walsworths hot trainer system by mid July.

Perhaps the most interesting and useless tit bit from that day depending on how you view it is that White noise who won the race prior at Worcester did so in 1 second slower time carrying exactly a stone less than Frenchy that equates give or take to nearly 20 lengths. White noise came out this week and hacked up off a mark of 109. French emperor runs off 113. I put this useless tit bit in as to people who don't understand there's a bit more to it than that it's going to sound very fancy. For those who do understand i can only apologise as its 3 hours past my normal bedtime and I don't have the time or the inclination these days to do the rest of the work to see if there's any substance to that little nugget. So forgive me I've gotten lazy in my old age.

That aside French emperor looks a very decent value bet. Lucky bere might also run good race and follow him home for Kaley Woolacott who's horses aren't running badly at the moment considering the prices they have been going off at.

Anxiously waiting to hear how bad the effects of the biblical weather have been.

They've had 8mm rain overnight apparently, it's raining now and the Biblical worst is forecast from noon onwards.

Even if that doesn't materialise (and I think it's odds-on it will as this weather system is blanketing large swathes of the country) I think it is currently Good to Soft edging towards Soft.

Heavy to unraceable will be more like it if that 32mm the next 24 hours they're talking about becomes the grim reality.

The track had 7mm. Rain overnight. No inspection is planned and racing goes ahead. Going is g/soft. Soft in places
They have added. A note that heavy rain is expected and they will monitor the situation

Some sites. Are now saying Saturday will be worse than expected

The met office shows a clear unaffected passage. From London. To the track. On the M40

Any one. Going. South to north. Should. Be advised. A40 closed. At Killarney turn off. And a diversion in place

We've had the heavy stuff in the Midlands already flooded everywhere up this way amd the rains still coming.
