Good morning.

It was just about a year ago that I broached the subject of Venetia Williams, predicting that the stable would be starting to bang in the winners and, lo, she gave us Fontaines Collonges on the 21st November. There have been many comments recently on the same subject: 'When will the stable start winning?".

Well, today may well see the Williams' ship leaving the becalmed waters on its journey towards the teeming shoals of winter winners. I am impressed by the profile of:

Tanganyika - Cheltenham 2.55 7/2 Win
Last season's second in the Midlands National to Mr Vango showed that marathon trips are the way to go with this fellow. At 7yo, he's young enough to keep improving at these sort of trips so I have high hopes that he strip fit enough to take this.

Dr T J Eckleburg - Cheltenham 2.20 11/1 Ew
I'm liking the look of his win at Chepstow last February when he got up on the line to win nicely on soft ground with Sans Bruit behind and he looks to have a live Ew chance at the price.

At Fontwell, I can see:

Footloose Man - Fontwell 12.27 5/1 Ew
going close. He's a c/d winner on G/sft ground and is near enough on a winning mark once more.

Lastly, how can I not back Ken Roy in the Sussex National? After backing him to win first time up on his chase debut I wrote this in my notes:

"Although this is by Getaway, he looks to be an out-and-out stayer who’ll love the soft ground. He jumped very well here and may be worth looking at over marathon trips."

Well, here we go; upped in trip straight away and after those noted comments, I'd be a fool to ignore him here. I'd be respecting Livin On Lucco and a dangerously low-weighted/rated Animal.

I had initial reservations about his ability to cope against more experienced chasers on this, only his second chase but I'm on.

Ken Roy - Fontwell 2.05 14/1 4 places. Ew

4 x Ew singles
Ew L15

Elsewhere my eye is taken by El Champo (Cheltenham 1.45) at a massive price and would have no fears about Quai De Bourbon carrying top weight at Naas (2.32). Should Monsiuer Slim be reading this, I can envisage the curling lip of derision (CLOD) before mouthing: " What the F%$* would you know about the Troytown?"

So, another cracking day's racing and I wish everyone the best of fortune. Whatever happens to my selections, I shall certainly enjoy the sport.

Love it 💙

Not so sure about Ken Roy, when you backed him he only had two other horses to beat and the wind operation may have helped but this is a bigger field and it's only his second time over fences + first time over this distance.
So hope he gives you a good win but I won't be backing him.
Well done with tipping Footloose Man, that was a good result (y)
