New Point To Point Forum

"Administrate, innovate, educate " reminds me of the 3 point plan of an Irish Presidential candidate who finished a tailed off second recently.
" Unity, community , opportunity "
Mind you the said candidate rarely mentioned the plan after her campaign launch so a second hand slogan is on offer to any half decent home for a pittance.
Lose the ear jewellery Tiggy, they have no place around animals .

She was at Wincanton yesterday flogging the headbands so maybe there was an extra need for decoration.

Bad news; Johanna ( French dairymaid) got a fall of her filly yesterday and had to be placed in an induced coma.
Today she had her spleen removed and is awaiting orthopaedic opinion on her neck, though her toes are moving.
Keep her in your thoughts and prayers please.
Remember this is a dangerous, dangerous business so please show respect to those who are putting their bodies on the line for our pleasure.

If anybody found my posts on British Point to Pointers that ran during the 2024/2025 pointing season intersting on JinnyJ's most well thought out thread of the Cheltenham weekend "The remaining November Meeting Racesat Cheltenham" I post them daily generally late afternoon here at Discussion - Dark horses and underrated value? | Pointing Pointers Feel free to have a look

Johanna due home from hospital today.
The hospital did not want her in a general ward for fear of infection.
She is one tough cookie so all the best to her.
Thanks for the positivity and feel good wishes all.
Brilliant news thanks for the update

Three years ago I had a crazy idea which was to highlight the connection between Rules racing and Point to Point racing. This idea founded on Jumping For Fun and is now entering its FOURTH season now under the Pointing Pointers banner and it has grown year on year !! So here is this years launch...............................................

Pointing Pointers Hunterchase Sponsorship 2026

For the fourth year running we are sponsoring a series of hunter chases to emphasise the link between pointing and rules racing. Having had 2 successful seasons under the Jumping For Fun banner we went under the Pointing Pointers brand last year and will be doing that again this season.

Last season we raised enough to sponsor 6 races thanks to your generosity..it would be fantastic to beat that this year.

Anyone who would prefer not to use Just Giving (which means that we do not pay commission on donations it is possible on Just Giving to leave no tip 😉) are welcome to call me on 07557982392 and I will give you my Bank Details and you can pay me and I will transfer the money into our central bank fund that is held by another member of the team......https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/robert-mackenzie-4?

I'd just like to add that this is an incredible thing that Gordon does. Initially it was to boost the profile of the late Jumping for Fun forum but even with the demise of that, it has gone from strength to strength and I know the Pointing community are very grateful for this initiative. I was actually speaking to the secretary at Taunton Racecourse recently after attending a seminar there and she was fulsome in her praise for the amazing input he has.

It's also an alternative way to attend a race meeting - you get treated very nicely!! Including presenting the trophies and judging the Best Turned Out.

As you know JinnyJ one of our aims is to cover as much of the Country that we can so far we have been to in no particular order Hexham, Catterick, Fakenham, Leicester, Ludlow, Taunton, Kempton and had one arranged for Wincanton but that was abandoned on the morning of the race.

I have just seen the "entries" or lack of them for one of my local Point to Points Horseheath this coming weekend and it is fair to say they are a disaster only 28 three of which are double entered so a maximum of 25 horses only !! over a 6 race card. I certainly would not be encouraging anyone to go to their first ever PtP as it would probably sour them for life. I hope that they have a rethink and abandon tomorrow before incurring too much cost.

How many runners would you get through an average 6 race card ?

Or to put it better what's an average point to point field size ?
It varies quite a bit, Danny, ground, other competing meetings and time of year being factors.

Plus, like Jumps racing at rules tracks, Pointing field sizes and the sport generally are in steady long-term decline.

You'd have seen a decent card at Lower Machen the other day, but Badbury Rings subsequently had a void race and only 20 runners in the other five contests.

Garthorpe and Dunsmore yesterday had 36 and 43 runners - quite respectable, really, given some pro meetings struggle to get more.

There are still meetings well worth attending - the Christmas one at Chaddesley Corbett near Kidderminster, for example, but 50 meetings out of a scheduled 130 got under 30 runners last season so it pays to know which ones to swerve.

To be honest Danny I go to points these day as much a social event as much as racing. I am very icky not to be an insular person and over 20 years ago made friends at Cottenham with a very special family from Ipswich it was one of those moments in life when you just know in 5 seconds that you have made friends for life. We have been PtP racing with as few as 20 runners but still had great fun ………although some people will differ PtP as not all about Betting.
To get back to your question the average number of runners is probably 6-8 which many find unacceptable so thankfully they no longer go 🤐 their choice which is obviously fine by me.

Thanks Gord. I could possibly give that Chaddesley Corbett a go this year as Kiddiminster is probably only a hour from me. I don't even mind small field sizes if im honest especially first time attending one as I'm happy enough just going so see what its all about and soak up the atmosphere.

I think it would be a good choice, Danny.

The field sizes usually have fair quantity and even better quality - the two "big races" on the card, the Men's Open and the Ladies Open, are often the hottest races of their type all season and can provide clues for the big Hunters' Chases at the Cheltenham Festival and the Aintree Grand National meeting and the young Maiden could feature horses with futures under rules.

And the betting ring, dominated by opinionated bookmaker Mark Hill, is as competitive as it gets in Points.

You can get an early bird e-ticket for £16 and I think it will be £20 on the gate.

I can DM you a link for the early bird ticket when I see one if you wish.

Is it the Harkaway club meeting on the 28th ?

I can see they've got a meet on the 7th but I'm working that weekend.

Wheatland on the 7th.

Yes, it's the one on the 28th - they're only advertising tickets for the earlier meeting at the moment, but I'd imagine Harkaway tickets will go on sale after that first meeting.

If you decide to go and let me know, I'll take a gander at the entries and DM you a few thoughts if you like.
