My 3rd favourite meeting of the year and with a benign weather forecast it should be well attended and atmospheric.

I'll add all the St. Stephen's winners when the final declarations are out, but particularly looking forward to seeing the following horses run.

Anyone who falls into the facile trap of asking this obviously-coy attention hound what his favourite and second-favourite meetings are answers to ME.

An excellent, timely, thread if I may say so (I just did).

Any observer free of Blighty jingoism has long since realised this is a far better meeting in terms of quality (and often quantity too) than anything going on in Britain over Christmas and, despite having had, at the last count, 247 applications for Irish citizenship summarily rejected, I shall be following both the meeting and this thread with great interest.
 
Been watching Weveallbeencaught for the Paddy Power chase on the 28th for a while. 16s a couple of weeks ago, now down to 7s or 8s generally.

I suspect NTD thought he had a potential champion back in Weve's early days. It didn't turn out that way, with perhaps the best run being the demolition of Rock My Way at Donny back in Jan, followed by entirely respectable efforts in the Kim Muir and at Aintree.

The run for EM in the Munster National looked strong, after which the trainer immediately/likely had this race pencilled in as a suitable target.

Plenty to worry about, and not sure 8s or so would be right to take now, but anyone on at the 16s is likely more than happy enough with their position.
 
With a view to the future, always worth noting Willie's declarations for the maiden hurdles that start the meeting.

I like the bottom-weight Backmersackme for another EM - Emmet Mullins - at around 16/1.

Looks a thorough stayer as his only win was in a two miles three furlongs bumper at Cork. There were a couple of good efforts in valuable three mile handicap hurdles at Navan ( 2nd) and Leopardstown ( 7th) last winter. His first two chase runs were over two and a half miles, and most noteworthy is the 2nd to Three Card Brag over three miles and a furlong at the Cheltenham October meeting. Raised one pound to 125, and unraced since.

I'm thinking the top-weight and Scottish National winner, Captain Cody for Willie Mullins, is one to be interested in for Aintree.

It's all priced in. Sir Gino is a stone better horse than Golden Ace after giving her the allowance.
 
I've bet Rocky's Diamond each way at 33/1 for the Christmas Hurdle on Sunday. The 20/1 is fine to take, I think he runs. He's plenty fit from chasing and was knocking on the door at only 5yo.

This horse was a real eye-catcher on debut over hurdles. I’ve no doubt he needs further, but this isn’t a very deep bumper, either on paper or when you look at the market cycle. This horse will be doing his best work up the straight, and 7/2 for a top-five finish looks a nice way to have him running for you.
