The 2026 Midlands Grand National Handicap Chase

Going stick 3.4 on Chase course - no way was that "Soft" ground.
Today's winning time was 9 minutes 21.38
In the last 3 years, the ground descriptions, going stick readings and winning times have been as follows.
2025 ( Mr Vango ) Good to soft ( watered ), 5.1, 9 minutes 12.87
2024 ( Beauport ) Heavy, 4.0, 9 minutes 43.1
2023 ( Major Dundee ) Soft ( heavy in places ), 6.4, 9 minutes 5.9

The ground descriptions don't tally with the going stick readings which the BHA requires every course to provide - more as a means to compare the condition of the ground at each course than between different ones.

To be fair anyone who doesn't know by now that stick readings aren't portable between tracks is beyond hope - i.e. 3.4 will mean different things at different venues.

I've hit a new low.

I'm beyond hope.

But ffs its a stick, stick it in the turf tell us the number I reckon even I could get that right.
