Punchestown

Ground absolutely bottomless; heavy rain after frost.
Given horses only saw soft ground for the last week here makes it suspect as to whether she beats him again.
She is decent enough , however to beat most horses.

I never saw the prelims so can't comment on how State Man looked beforehand bit he looked the winner to me at the last the seemed to blow up halfway up the run in. It will be interesting if she clashes with Lossiemouth soon

Even missing the prelims, I could see he had a tummy on him. BDA goes the Mares route according to GE.

A really interesting renewal of the John Durkan.

I've put Spillane's in my Ten To Follow, so the drift in the betting is a bit disconcerting.

No doubt the support for horses like Grangeclare and Journey are helping cause the drift.

I hope he runs well, in terms of a future prospect, even if he can't win today.

If theres one thing Gallopin Des Champs is not short of it's speed. I remember him running in an early race and he took off the other jockeys saying they had never travelled so fast in their lives trying to keep up with him.

I prefer him to Fast or Slow on this ground and trip

Spillanes Tower ran a cracker to finish 2nd, looked like he was the winner over the last but Fact kept pulling out. I hope the first four all stay fit for the Gold Cup because if they do its going to be a cracker.

Thought it was a cracking race, Fastorslow surprised me as I thought he would finish in front of GDC.

Cracking runs from the 1st and runner up, but I think we will see a different GDC back at Cheltenham, that trip is a mile too short for him.

Very impressive 4 months out I thought he'd be 7/2 or even 4/1 fav for the Gold Cup him having younger legs. They go 5/2 I should have known better

I'd have him and Spillane's closer together a wee bit in the betting for the following reason.

Fact To File had the stronger form in the book before today, which is why he went off about four times the shorter price.

Alongside the fact Jimmy Mangan says he couldn't train Spillane's on grass because of recent firm ground, tells me Spillane's is on just a steep an upward curve as Fact To File, if not a sharper upward curve.

If he can continue this progression over 3 miles and beyond, connections will be delighted.

I'd have them about 4s and 7s at this stage, but what do I know.

Both really good horses.

Question;
Two second season chasers Fact Or File and Spillane Tower.
Would you target one for Ryanair and one for Gold Cup this season, given they stay fresh and well or go balls deep ?
Which horse for which race then if so?
Just wondering...JP has a head full of first world problems, he might appreciate a little help solving this one....

If I were him, with all Spillane's form around right handed tracks, and question marks emerging around a few of the market leaders, I'd get him supplemented for the King George a.s.a.p, Edgt.

Corbett Cross is the Ryanair horse. There is definitely a slight doubt about Fact to File getting the Gold Cup trip -I'd say JP will be happy to let the two of them take their chance.

Jimmy wants a Cheltenham winner above all else.

JP won't rob Jimmy Mangan of his gold cup chance unlike O'Leary with noel meade.

Fact to file went straight over fences like Florida Pearl. Let's see if he goes one better now

The jump by fact to file at the last gave me goosebumps

The race of the decade?

I'm not at all sure the Durkan form is worth paying any attention to.

I don't have any sectionals but the overall time seems to be slow which suggests to me that it ended up little more than a 2-mile race so the likes of GDC or Fastorslow would not have been able to show themselves in their best light.

The runner-up is only a 155 horse.

Put a line through the race.
