Some excellent work…

I think there's a few here making the mistake of thinking that others give one iota of a fk what they think or feel on any subject, 'confront' all you want but I dare bet that won't end positively either, on the net you'll just get told to fk off.

In my experience the human race has the same trait re prejudices where ever you go, just shows how skin colour etc changes nothing, it's quite funny when I hear those I'm closely linked to from elswhere come out with stuff the likes of some on here would get their stays in a twist over if I said it

Yes, I take your point. But, just like you, I have not one iota of fukc to give when someone is rude or confrontational to me on the internet. The internet is not real life, if that’s how you wish to treat it. It is amazingly educational, however.

Just to add, I don't enjoy being the forum cop, but I'm the only one that has the ability to do this. I have a track record at CM which I ran for 25 years, and for those who know me - I am pretty damn fair and tolerant, sometimes all it takes is an apology and you're back in.

Another thing - I have only been here fleetingly over the past few months due to some major surgery, and I was in rehab for several weeks until today. So most of my efforts have been focused elsewhere. I don't catch everything, but we all know how post accordingly without using racist terms. Chinky is derived from Chink. Anyone with a brain knows that is a racist and derogatory slur targeting Asians - especially Chinese. That is a fact, not an opinion and it won't be tolerated here. If you have any doubt about this, or just think it's your "opinion", then go to a Chinese restaurant and ask to be served some Chinkys and see what happens. That would settle the question I am sure.

One thing to remember, this is a public forum where everyone to include guests who are not logged in can read everything. If members are calling each other twats, c%&*s, and using derogatory terms like the above, etc., only downgrade the forum, and it's a turnoff. We want this forum to gain members, not repulse them. I am rather surprised that I need to explain this.

If some of you need an outlet for using colorful language - there are ways to make private sections, but I'd need to be convinced that it would not be a section that gets a cliquey us vs them sort of thing. Please contact me if this is something you'd want to see.

....
The new mod has done a fantastic job with the forum. However a couple of times people have requested that we get something sorted with the separation of the general chat and the horse racing threads properly so that people who genuinely come on a horse racing forum for horse racing can actually see what they came for on latest threads. That hasn't been done which is fair enough if a mod hadn't had time but it would've been a better use of time than throwing the book at Tanlic.
...
Could you please post or send me a screenshot about what you are referring to? This might be an easy fix. Thank you.

This is why I don't trouble admin by reporting abusive language towards me - it just creates extra work for admin, a poor reward for admin's efforts in creating this excellent platform, and you never know what else might be going on in admin's life.

Get well soon, Mister B!

Tanlics also had his own health problems recently, and while I hope he learns from this episode, I hope he returns from his ban and can enjoy the run up to Cheltenham Festival.

It's always my hope that what unites us outweighs what divides us, on this forum and life in general.

Naive probably, but anyway.

I'm not speaking for everyone but basically I think what's needed is for the Horse racing section on home screen needs to be centre stage. I think the problem has been at least for me and Reet that's the latest posts and latest threads not sure we need both of those tbh I'd think latest posts would be enough.

Horse racing seems to be getting lost with so many chit chat threads being started. Half way down the screen for general racing topics and when you go to general racing topics they don't seem to be putting latest posts to the top hence somehow there are longshot threads from 2023 and 2024 nearer the top than the current longshot thread. Perhaps others who've been a bigger part of talking horses down the years should have more input but I certainly think for a racing forum the topic layout is not working.

That aside obviously you've not been well I hope surgery went as well as it can and you're on the road to a full recovery. All the best Mr B.

Have to say I completely disagree Len and believe me defending Tanlic is not a hill I'd choose to die on. The person who first called it out I'm not familiar with but has managed a dozen posts on the forum in years of being a member as if literally just waiting in the wings to be offended.
You assume a lot here. Where did I say that I was offended? You have no idea what I’m “waiting in the wings” for. I’ve checked the rules and there is no threshold of post numbers before one is allowed to comment. As you so correctly put it, you are not familiar with me so your frame of reference is limited; and I should say erroneous.

Do I need to be familiar with someone who hangs around a forum without posting themselves but then posts to highlight what someone else has said wrong. What's the point ? To stick your two penneth in somewhere where you don't contribute highlighting something someone who's been a huge contributor not just to here but other racing forums down the years. You highlighted it he got banned are you pleased ? Will you sleep better tonight ?

You're right though I made an assumption that you were offended as why highlight something that had no bearing on you ? I apologise if I assummed incorrectly but the alternative is surely worse. At least if you were passing comment as it was something you felt strongly about then at least I could respect that to some extent.

I've just read Keep Quiet's postings and I don't see what the issue is or of what relevance they are to either this discussion or his right to have his say tbh.

Reads to me like someone who doesn't post much so far - so what? Many don't post at all - and the posts read to me like an eclectic mix, with no agenda, that quietly add value to the forum as most contributions do.

Sadly the use of racial epithets has been enabled by recent 'leadership' titans, both directly, and more often, by dog whistling.

NF. DT. BJ et seq.

I've been giving this matter some further (tongue-in-cheek) thought and I've decided the punishment should fit the crime.

I think the fella should instead serve six months community service in the kitchens cooking my Saturday chinese takeaway while Daniel, who I am reliably informed finished stone last in a racial discrimination awareness contest recently, should have to deliver said meal to my home by scooter every time it's raining at Saturday lunchtime.

Next case!
If you want to invite me for dinner there is no need to dress it up as some weird community service cosplay. Just send me location. I'll come in my black lives matter t-shirt we can wrap ourselves in pride flags and eat Chinese takeaway whilst discussing global warming. Wouldn't be my usual gig but nothing would be too much for you. I've already done my racial awareness course it was mainly done through episodes of Southpark and visits to jail. Just give me general location I'm sure your house would be the one with all the coronation chicken sandwich wrappers poking out the top of your green bin.......ahhh wait nearly got me, I reckon it's 1/5 your bin is blue.

It's not something I'd usually advocate but some have it coming so if he's not in 'paint his house'

Just realising my own mistake on the forum suggestions didn't realise that the forum General racing topics does still update it was seeing the long shot threads from 23 and 24 that was throwing me off as those are strange ones to have pinned as they won't be used. My mistake.

It would seem to me it's ok to call someone a racist on here but not to call someonebeing totally ignorant harmless names. In my defense the moderator doesn't know shit about me and up until he turned up out of the blue I had never heard of him. For his information:
I was brought up in Scotland my Dad was English from Portsmouth. Where we lived in Glasgow schools were either catholic or protestant and you were either Celtic or Rangers. However my dad taught me"If you were in a river drowning and someone jumped in to save you would you ask them their religion?. Which stuck with me throughout my life. However for a long time I followed Rangers and was such a fanatic I still remember the regular team players at the time
Ritchie Shearer Caldow Greg McKinnon Baxter Scott McMillan Miller Brand and Wilson.
Things changed for me when one day I had got into a flight with the school bully and came out on top. A day or two later John Clark a first team player for Celtic turned up at my door asking if I would like to join a boxing club he sponsored in Airdrie. I became a regular and ended up following Celtic mainly because my new friends from the club were mainly catholics. John Hughes, big Yogi of Celtic became my hero. For the rest of my young life my best friends were Celtic supporters. This led to me joining a karate club with another Celtic supporter who became like a brother to me.Religion had no place in our lives.
When I started my first real jobI hit on an Idea and started a marketing company. One of my workmates and friend Iftikar from Pakistan became a co director espite drawbacks like the fact his parents hating us infidels and trust me they truly did and I was never allowed to set foot in there home or lay eyes upon my friend's wife..we remained close friends for years... So yeah I know what a racist was..and I am offended by LM jumping in and calling me as such because he is what I said he is.
I left Scotland 25 years ago at which time everyone I know used the word Ch***y any time they went to our local carry out. I have never been back to Scotland so how the fuck was I meant to know that someone decided suddenly it was Racist to call Chinese food by its new found political name?
Here in Thailand I have half a dozen close drinking buddies from 1/2 a dozen different countries I couldn't tell the religion of any of them. The Closest people to me are my Thai Missus who is incidentally is a beautiful brown skinned lady, Her brother Watchana, her Sister in law her Mum and Dad not to forget our boy Kampan who's name is Thai for Fist...so sure I am racist duh..I don't have a racist fucking bone in my body but if you Mr Moderator who I don't know from Adam had taken time to get to know my history I would IMO not have been banned. Not to worry I won't hold my breath waiting for an apology for calling me a racist

Tan.

In a nutshell I believe you didn't intend it as racist but others thought it was.

Let's get back to racing fella.

The Cheltenham Festival is nearly here.

Best advice is I wouldn't continue debating it because you know where it will end up.

You've said your piece I can totally understand you aren't happy about what happend but as I say let's get back to racing.

You’re getting no apology from me, pal. I didn’t call you a racist - get your facts right. I highlighted that you had used a racist term on this board. I didn’t even report you, somebody else did. Then the board moderator took the appropriate action. Rightly so.

I’m “surprised” that you live in Thailand, and you don’t know that the C word is a racist term.

Don’t agree, Len. For example, one could easily construe that your opening sentence and use of the word “pal”, then putting surprised in inverted commas is intentionally insulting whether you intended it to be or not.
