Some excellent work…

You’re getting no apology from me, pal. I didn’t call you a racist - get your facts right. I highlighted that you had used a racist term on this board. I didn’t even report you, somebody else did. Then the board moderator took the appropriate action. Rightly so.

I’m “surprised” that you live in Thailand, and you don’t know that the C word is a racist term.
An apology from you ? Don't make me laugh. Why would you who couldn't wait to stick the knife in and twist it think you should apologies for stirring things up. ?

As I said before, I had six or seven people on ignore for a while but at New Year last year decided to take everybody off ignore.

Right now I only have one on ignore but, to be honest, Tanlic has pushed me close a couple of times. I think another person has me on ignore, which I'm very happy about.

It's a grand facility well worth using.
the great thing about using ignore is it's very simple to bypass...I am shocked to read you had 7 fellow members on ignore...I think I would have a long look in the mirror and be asking myself why do these members dislike my posts so much I have to block them. As for Ian Davies he posted 11 new threads in 2 hours cluttering up the forum

I don't have a problem with people disliking my posts.

It's how they express that dislike.

I was brought up to be tolerant, fair-minded and open to walking in the other person's shoes for a mile before taking an opinion on them.
so when people repeatedly fire out petty insults rather than offer constructive criticism I exercise my right to do the forum equivalent of moving to another part of the bar so that I don't have to listen to them.

I don't think I need to ask myself why I had people on ignore. I think they're the ones who need to look in the mirror. I've had very civil dealings with everybody I've taken off ignore, including yourself, Tanlic, and the one I have on ignore at the moment I didn't have before.

I realised a few weeks ago that I had Ian on ignore years ago on the old forum because I was uncomfortable with the tone of some of his posts but I've had no issues with anything he's posted since his return.

I don't buy into the idea that it's an internet forum so anything goes. I see it more as a crowd of people gathering in my living room or in the pub to discuss racing and occasionally other stuff and I prefer to deal with them as though I were talking to them face to face.

Each to their own - I find the forum makes for much more pleasant reading since I deployed the facility and I don't miss the racing/betting input of those I find personally objectionable as individuals.

I now feel I visit a forum populated with people I seem to get along with well enough, but we must all do what works for us individually.

One thing I would like to expand upon is that (whether it's a good sign or not :ROFLMAO: ) I find I'm actually on the same wavelength as Ian on a lot of things. Right now I cannot imagine Ian ever setting out to insult me and I most certainly wouldn't do so to him (or anyone, for that matter).

I think - though some others would evidently disagree 😂 - I've mellowed over the years, Maurice.

I think I can still stand up for myself if anyone has a pop at me, but that aside, you're right, and tbh a lot of what I write is tongue in cheek and not to be taken seriously.

Some people - you, for example - know that without being told, but we're all different and not everyone is destined to get along.

I find the ignore button helps me avoid present and future conflict and I am optimistic things will settle down here now and we can look forward to the great racing that spring brings.

I have two people currently on ignore. One because their political views were just too in my face and I couldn't be bothered reading them any more. The other - well now there's a story! And why do I have them on ignore? Well after reading extremely libellous comments about myself from this member on Twatter (a place that is well suited to Twats of this ilk imo), I thought I would enjoy my time on here far more if I extinguished their entire being. Works really well for me.

It must be weird to have multiple people on ignore because obviously a few of the people you have on ignore will have discussions with those who you haven't got on ignore then surely you just see disjointed conversations that make no sense.

I never ignore anybody. I'd rather listen to someone who's full of shit, speaks hate and abuse or completely disagrees with all my opinions. Firstly in life if you managed to completely ban what is called hate speech in modern society and nobody could say anything you didn't like then you didn't get rid of the attitudes you just silenced them. Only problem then is you don't know who they are. Let them speak it then you know what you are dealing with, as they are In plain sight.

On the other part of that people who disagree with you I think is a healthy part of your circle. It's like who wants to be surrounded by nodding dogs. I want the friend that call me out on my bullshit and doesn't cry when I call them out on theirs. I'd value a friend/partner who will break your heart with an uncomfortable truth over one that misleads you with lies. Tell somebody they are fine when they are not doesn't help. Listing a bunch of reasons why they are not fine and giving an opinion on where they could improve is sometimes the kick-start for self realisation and the road to self improvement.

You can of course read anyone's posts whether the use the ignore button or not
I did have a peak once during my ban only to find Ian Davies had taken over the entire forum with pages of up and coming races...to me that was the height of bad manners so I went back to another forum I am a member of to see out the rest of my ban...If I had been the moderator Davis's feet wouldn't have touched the floor on the way out the door
.
I may or may not stick around but any further nonsense like that and I will be out of here....when the Mickey mouse novice hurdle pushes the Champion Hurdle of the front page and it gets zero comments that does it for me

To be fair to Ian - and I’m not speaking for him - I think by loading up the racing part of the forum with a list of races, he was trying to replicate what they do on ‘The Racing Forum’; a forum which Ian chose to leave/ was asked to leave.

I think that would actually be a good idea, if we separated out the upcoming big races and had a separate section for Cheltenham and Royal Ascot.

I see I am being talked about - and the best thing is I can only see what I'd have my biggest bet of the year is the reasonable side of the discussion. 😂

In retrospect, maybe creating 12 threads when the Festival Handicap entries came out was premature (though the weights are out tomorrow) but I've enjoyed the discussions on the upcoming races threads and they've yielded big-priced winners.

If a race thread is of no interest it will fade away into obscurity of its own accord.

If anyone doesn't like the threads being created, they are always at liberty to create their own.

The smart thing to do would have been started a thread Big Races and put all his posts in one place...perhaps next time...I believe he was banned from TRF

Don’t actually think that would be smart because you’d never be able to keep track of the various discussions about the different races. Maybe splitting “General Racing Topics” to have “Upcoming Races” separate would do it. Putting those races up has certainly generated a lot more talk about racing and desert’s detailed analyses are most informative.

I see no point what so ever of having a long list of DTM members and only engaging with a selected few !!
DTM members are there because at some stage they have disagreed with comments and the selected few are people who in the main agree with posts...........so surely the easiest thing to do is just start a whatsapp group with the few and everyone is happy ?

What are DTM members, please?

Question for admin, for the social welfare of this forum, is it time to lock this thread.

Just about everyone's had a say.

Is it time to move on?

I think there's been some constructive discussion, actually, although to be fair, I can only see what I would no doubt consider to be the civilised and rational bits of it. 😂

I wouldn't object to a separate upcoming races section, but then I don't object to anything - apart from verbal abuse, that is - and I'm happy with whatever admin does, or doesn't, do.
