For me, without a doubt, it's either brought down by a faller or hampered by a faller, no chance after.

When you don't have a bet.
Michael Winter's dad, a bookie/punter had a runner in a confined p2p years ago.
So big was the entry that , allowing for divisions, the races started a half hour before advertised time ; the confined maiden being the first race.
Long story short, the eldest son who had the money/ bookmaker credit to get a bet on missed the race so the horse won by default when the duo ahead fell independently at the last two fences.
The eldest son arrived into the parade ring just as the winner returned.
"What happened ?" he asked
"You were late, that's what f****g happened ! 'tis a fine thing to bet on a horse and he fall on you, at least you had some chance of winning; this way we had no chance !"

When you know the jockey has gone too early and then gets nutted right on the jamstick.

The 2nd last at Cheltenham has been brutal to me even after they moved it, it seems to cost me dear at some point at least once a season.

When they're never travelling + are pulled up around, or just after halfway.
I take it as a personal sleight against my judgement 😆
Definitely agree with that.
When they start at the back and stays there.
Bit like my nap in the Plate Tahmuras.ffs

When I’ve found one to beat the hot favourite only for it to be nutted by complete outsider.
I once thought I'd found a good thing and lumped on.it got beat by a 100/1 shot who was a stone out of the hcap and died 3 days later.
I stopped gambling for a while.

Never been as fed up as this.........first 5 winners in Tote Jackpot, backed 5 out of the 8 runners in the 6th (last leg). Mine finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th (50/1 rag won the race).

Footnote - I believe DO & Outsider backed it:ROFLMAO::mad:

I recently did an interview with a point trainer (Les Jefford) and saw one of his horses Master McShine who is a stunner. He had one run (Les' horses always need one and bloom from Feb onwards) and I was waiting for him to reappear. I went to Buckfastleigh and saw he was entered. But then I got caught up talking (my biggest issue) and I suddenly heard the commentary - he won half the bleeding track and I didn't have a penny on....😭

A similar story when Missunited won her first bumper at Listowel.
We had a runner with Eddie Harty runner in an earlier race; going down to the bookies I saw Eddie on his own on the stand and went up for a chat, leaving her race without me.
She won, bad enough but at 12/1 was twice the price I was expecting....... DOH!

I’ve never got over thinking I’d found a long priced winner of the Triumph only to see poor Barizan lead for most of the race and be pipped at the post by Soldatino. I followed Barizan throughout his career right up to the point where I spoke to someone on Facebook who was going to give him a lovely retirement home only for him to die just before it happened.

I used to get very annoyed when one I’d backed lost out in a close finish to one whose rider subsequently got a ban for overuse of the whip when mine had been ridden legally. Fortunately that seems to be a thing of the past now they can DSQ a winner for a whip offence by the jockey

Cheering Booster Bob home at Newbury 2 weeks ago (he traded at 880/1 in running as he got so far behind) and afterwards realising I hadn’t actually put the bet on I thought I had at 22/1. To make matters worse, it will probably win Sean Bowen ride of the year and I’ll keep being reminded of it. My only consolation was I had put him in 3 lucky 15’s, but didn’t get any winners to go with it.

I have actually done similar things quite often and did it again this week with Jimmy De Seuil 16/1, but he was only my 4th choice in the Coral Cup, so not so painful. Always annoying though.
