The 2025 2000 Guineas

Sure to stay and progressive historically trumps higher rateable 2yo form over shorter and stamina doubts.

Both are in my "Guinfolio" along with Expanded and a gutless saver on the jolly just after the Craven.

It actually gives me further cause for optimism for Green Impact as it makes me wonder if they're sure SOL can't run to 120 at a mile and Ruling Court will have to find another 8lbs from somewhere to do so, whereas I'm always looking for something that can hit 125/6 on the day. I'm not convinced anything in this field can do so but I would warmly welcome it if it did happen because I just want to see top class winners of the top races whether I'm on them or not. (As long as my horse runs its race, of course.)

Green Impact is a horse that I like, and is well thought of by trainer Jessica Harrington. Has a bit to find on the ratings but there will be no stamina doubts about the trip ( and should stay further ), my main concern though is the current stable form - Jessie is 0/29 at the time of posting, quotes of 16's and 14/1 with 4 Places makes him one to consider for EW purposes.
This is the one I have gone for too at 16’s & 14’s for the extra place. Was 33’s when Jessica Harrington first suggested this would be her candidate (over Hotazhell), but my aversion to Ante Post meant I wasn’t going to go for that.

I’m not overly concerned about the stable form (although I’d obviously be more confident if she was flying). She has had some horses running decent races and wouldn’t be bringing him over if she was in doubt about his wellbeing.

I’ve only just looked at the race and Ruling Court is the only one that has the magic word ‘ quickened’ in a race description so he’s my pick. Not much of a price for a 3 pence ew punter, though.

Both Godolphin runners wear tongue ties.
Virginia Waters 1,000 Gns winner in 2005 is the last English classic winner to wear one.
fwiw I think all head piece aids, blinkers, tongue ties, red hoods even , should be banned from use in Classics and Group 1 races .
I am a Green Impact fan since I saw him on debut so hopeful for Jessie and co.

Awful bloke that I am, I'd rather back the winner of the worst 2,000 Guineas ever than back a loser in a vintage renewal.

I'm seemingly in a minority inasmuch as I never "want" to see anything happen in terms of theatre - it will be what it will be, that's the uncertain fascination of this game.

Many of my big-priced wins were by spotting a lousy renewal but that's easier to assert with confidence in Jump racing (eg Charter Party 33/1 and The Thinker 33/1 for truly terrible Cheltenham Gold Cups) than unexposed 3yo Classics on the Flat.

You know what my "Guinfolio" is, so nothing else to add other than I hope Ruling Court, Shadow Of Light and Expanded are 1-2-3 as, while I've saved on Field Of Gold, I regard his trainer as one of the most obnoxious individuals in the game (and that's amid stiff competition 😂) and I'd just love his hitherto abject failure to win the 2,000 Guineas to continue.

Must have a favourite's chance, though.

That sounds a bit like turning on the TV for the cup final hoping it's a crap game. I recall losing money in the Celtic-Aberdeen game back in October but it's still the most pulsating match I watched all season. So I'm hoping it turns out to be a brilliant race whether I win or not. I just love seeing exhilarating performances even if I lose. I'm not a pro or anything remotely close. It's a hobby and entertainment and I want to be entertained. If I happen to make money along the way that's a bonus. Not too many people make money from their hobbies.

Like you, I've done well taking advantage of the market in poor renewals of races. In the Gold Cup, Yahoo nearly pulled a proper rabbit out of the hat for me at 100/1 but I did bag See More Business, Mr Mulligan, Synchronised and Lord Windermere at big odds in poor renewals but I still prefer epic performances.

If I've bet on nil-nil I want nil-nil! 😂

If there was no betting, I wouldn't even follow racing - cheering on someone else's horse with no hope of personal financial gain is just gimp-like in my self-centred book - at least I'm (brutally) honest! 😂

Good question, Maurice!

Pretty much tbh - I watch the racing as stated for betting reasons, I wouldn't watch any other sport unless I had a personal involvement in it, I only catch up with the news with a view to how it affects me personally (usually financially) and I can't be bothered with "entertainment" on TV etc because I don't find it, err, "entertaining," and I cba to invest time in investigating whether there might be isolated exceptions to this in my book (it's a million on there aren't any and anyone who says I'll like something clearly doesn't know me - nap!)

Each to their own! 😂

Ruling Court delivers for the favourite Uncle Smart Arse "Guinfolio," (got 16/1), but at first glance Field Of Gold has got a shocking ride, trying to win from the back off what looked a slow enough pace to me.

Buick has absolutely ridden Shoemark to sleep there in my book.

Not Shoemark's finest hour for me....especially how he was closing at the end. Strangling the horse and should have kicked as soon as Buick did but he didn't. He read the race very wrong.

That was my first thought but on seeing the replay he was level with Shadow Of Light for most of the race and appeared to make his move at the same time.

I need to see the race again but I do get the impression Gosden is quietly fizzing.

The time compared to lesser contests on the card tells you all you need to know - Buick in the ideal place close to a moderate pace, Shoemark simply giving the winner a headstart when it came to the business end.

Field Of Gold very likely the best horse in the race - but I get paid and Gosden got beat (again) so who cares and maybe there is a God! 😂

Buick knew he had a horse that could accelerate when he pressed the button.Which is why I always scour previous races for ‘quickened’. I’d assume that’s why he chose him over his stable mate, too.

I agree but Field of Gold can quicken too and the winner was off the bridle first. Shoemark should have been watching his every move instead of taking a pull following what wasn't the quickest early pace. They were bound to turn it into a sprint and he should have read that better.

I thought he chose him over the Shadow of Light as he wasn't guaranteed to get the mile (he looks more of a sprinter than Ruling Duty and I suspect may be dropped in trip - think he has a Commonwealth Cup entry). SL got the trip as it was a slow pace which became a sprint.

The favourite had his ears pinned back and his head high when travelling downhill ; he either disliked the faster ground ( time 2 seconds faster than Craven ) or is still immature. I imagine the jockey was trying to keep him balanced .
Time will tell.
