The 2025 2000 Guineas

I am not Shoemark’s biggest fan but it looked to me like f of g struggled to handle the dip on this faster ground and that rather than any delay did for him .

More baffled by the ride on Shadow of Light - Barzalona lit up a suspected non-stayer rather early and found himself in front two out.

I wouldn’t deny that much the best jockey of the 1-2-3 was on the winner.

Barzalona lit up the July Course on a few visits there ; not fully sure what the difference is between tracks ; Maybe Mickie does not either. Apparently the horse lit up beyond his expectations.
Either ways Godolphin have had the weekend of weekends.

Bit odd not to expect a Middle Park winner to show speed and quicken ?

The non stayers might not Ardross .
That said with dam sires New Approach, Darshaan ,El Gran Senor and Vaguely Noble you might expect the horse to keep going a little longer.
First race ride on a horse with a tongue tie beaten a length ; I imagine the jockey takes a slightly different approach riding a horse with a tongue tie to a horse without one, mainly by keeping interference with his head , thus his breathing at a minimum.
So you give a horse the signal to go and he explodes (relatively ) what do you do ?
Poor K Shoemark had the opposite problem this side, giving his fella the gee up and nothing happens for a few precious seconds.
It could be the Night Of Thunder/Kingman/Australia type result all over again, too early to call yet.
Remove the tongue ties and you would have the fav winning , easily.

Surely that would depend on exactly what effect the tongue tie has had ?

I suppose although not his worst ride for the stable it has had the most serious consequences and it was a judgment call - hanging on to the horse a few strides too long rather than bad luck . I suspect all the ratings and time bods raving about his closing fractions have not helped Shoemark.

I hope the rest of the season shows what a good horse Ruling Court actually is.
I tend to think he might have found more had Field of Gold challenged earlier .

Though looking at videos of some of the horses delivered late to win the Guineas, - Sir Ivor , Nijinsky , El Gran Senor for example they were closer than F of G before delivering their winning efforts and off races run at a stronger pace. I think that is why the Gosdens have dispensed with Shoemark - not adapting tactics for a slow pace .
