Races on Wednesday 24th September 2025 - First 3 picks
15:00 hrs @ Goodwood - I am laying = Galeron
15:08 hrs @ Perth - I am laying = I Wish You
15:15 hrs @ Listowel - I am laying = Alright Darling (But only if the odds drop below 12 - Otherwise I will look for an alternative)
Caveats =
I Ignore prices the day before, they frequently change and are often misleading.
I am only interested in horses that I believe cannot win.
I often drop a horse from the list on the day, if the race is altered in any way;
A stronger horse becomes a non runner on the day
Rain does not prevent the race, but is unfavourable to stronger horses
The jockey is changed on a stronger horse
Worst scenario = Several horses become non runners
Finally, I always stop when I have achieved even a penny over my desired target, or if any of the above affects the remaining choices, whichever comes first.
Oh and ....
This is not a recommendation, I am just sharing my own opinion, not suggesting anyone else act on it.
+ 100I am laying Forebears in the R6 @ Gatton, Australia | Hopefully the price will drop before the off.
+ 100I would lay Affirmative Lad in the R5 @ Geelong, but the price is far too high at present. If that changes, I will cover it.
Switched to laying

+ 100I am laying Tavolo in the R7 @ Gatton | Hopefully the price will drop before the off.
So, now I have been asked to take over and "manage" someone else's syndicate.
The gentleman running it is at -38% year to date.
I am told it started as a 50k syndicate
He wants me to take over and turn it around, as he keeps backing donkeys apparently.
In fact, he backed all of the last 11 horses that I laid...
He also tells me I would not have to deal with the syndicate members.
But, here are the issues as I understand them.
1. I cannot be paid for my work if I understand the law correctly - Unless I am a syndicate member and then I receive my share of the profits.
A: Why would I want to join the syndicate?
B: If I joined the syndicate I would be exposed to all the members. Something several people on TH have warned against as they can be "challenging"
2. Why would he not just copy my lays and resolve it that way if he believes what I am doing will work for his syndicate?
A: Poor discipline?
B: Double guessing?
C: Emotions?
Of course I am attracted to earning more money for the same work. Who wouldn't be?
But my understanding of syndicates is that you cannot be paid to manage them (legally), you can only receive the portion that relates to your capital.
This chap, plus the 2 old friends in the US, have hounded me on the subject.
@Slim was kind enough to offer great advice in the past.
I would be curious to read the thoughts / advice of others.
Also happy to have a phone call / chat if anyone wants to get out from behind the screens![]()
Not really my style. I am more of a "No thank you" type of guy.Tell them to f%*& off.
Not really my style. I am more of a "No thank you" type of guy.
But your opinion is well documented and I do value it.
Thank you.
The issue is they keep asking, repeatedly. The Americans I mean.
It is starting to wear me down.
If I cannot earn from it and I could face a lot of aggravation, what would be the point?
Really?Give him my contact details and I'll turn it around for him, at a price.
Really?
I thought you did not touch Syndicates?
I'm trying really hard to care about any of this....no, not even getting close.
That's self-absorbed narcissism for you!
I do keep getting drawn back to this thread like a moth to a flame, though - it's a "Bismarck" thing.
So you really want me to give him your contact details? If a guy is losing 36% off 50k he's an absolute moron and it's in the public good that he gets educated.
Simple enough answer.Don’t do it, it will only cause you problems.
