    King George (Ascot)

I doubt that Pat Eddery (or various people in the media) ever did a survey comparing adjusted times with official going descriptions, which suggests that times do not get a lot faster on firm compared to good to firm but that they DO get faster. On my figures the ground is around 15 lb to 25 lb...

    Ascot Going

Borderline Good/Good to Firm on first 3 times, imo.

    Leopardstown (today)

An on-form Famous Name beats an on-form Steinbeck, probably comfortably, on what we know of them so far. And, as you say, the likelihood of Famous Name giving his running is high. IMO.

    Findlay Warned off for 6mths

An update on this. I got a quick and constructive response from the ROA saying that they thought I had a point and that they would be taking up with Paul Scotney at the BHA the possible need for better instruction of new and existing owners as to constraints on their gambling. Meanwhile, my...

    The 2000 Guineas (and beyond)

Agree about Fencing Master looking unsatisfactory. It should be noted, however, that the horse that beat him last night (Wade Giles) posted a remarkably good time.

    The Morning Line

I agree with 1 and 3, but WTF is "a more theatrical delivery of photo-finish results"? Please, please, spare us the gruesomely contrived delivery of an X-Factor or Big Brother (besides, can you imagine how much hoovering of prices there would be in the 30-second delay by those in the know?)

    Findlay Warned off for 6mths

Is it this one? Paul Dixon, President of the Racehorse Owners Association, has issued the following thoughts and comments about the implications for racehorse owners that result from Harry Findlay's disciplinary hearing and appeal. He said: "The Harry Findlay case was never about whether...

    Older Flat Horses 2010

I am a big fan of Workforce but with him at 2.06 and Harbinger at 4.3 I have had to have a few quid on the latter. The Royal Ascot form could hardly be looking much stronger.

    Findlay Warned off for 6mths

It is VERY tempting to put this to the test, and to ask a few stewards, trainers and BHA security staff whether, for instance, I can back against my horse, whether my partner can lay my horse, whether I can lay a horse in my stable, back against a horse in my stable (of which I have been...

    Findlay Warned off for 6mths

I would agree with both points, but would add that I think those who run racing have been found wanting in the former. I have sent an e-mail regarding the match-bet situation, asking them if it is against the rules, and if so, which rule.

    Findlay Warned off for 6mths

If you search for the word "backing" there are no returns. Therefore, I am safe to imagine that I could have £10k on a rival in a match bet with my horse. Is that correct? Or is that covered somewhere else?

    Findlay Warned off for 6mths

As a matter of interest, why do you think the BHA bothers with an online tutorial covering inside information but not with one about what constraints are placed on you as a result of becoming an owner? Do you think it is because - in this instance but seemingly not in others - they regard...

    Findlay Warned off for 6mths

The BHA's policy of expecting owners to wade through their badly constructed and horrendously complicated Rule Book, without guidance and without any attempt to establish that the relevant points have been located, read and understood, is an abdication of responsibility of which they should be...

    Findlay Warned off for 6mths

Yes, I am. While I may have received something, I am not AWARE of having received something, and I certainly was not asked to ACKNOWLEDGE that I had received something and that I understood what my obligations now are. I find it astonishing that there is nothing comparable to terms and...

    Findlay Warned off for 6mths

Could you explain? As someone who fairly recently became an owner, I am not aware of ever having been mailed about restrictions that are now placed on my betting. Much less was this drawn to my attention, with a requirement of my acknowledgement of these new constraints, at the time I became...

    Findlay Warned off for 6mths

It is in the quote posted by krizon above, which appeared in this month's Thoroughbred Owner & Breeder. Paragraph starting "I've never liked the rule..."

    Findlay Warned off for 6mths

To be fair, I think most people were sticking up for the principles of justice, especially in terms of the sentence awarded, rather than for the arrogant, mardy c**k himself.

Coral Marathon - Sandown Saturday - an odds compiling exercise

Stating that pace is highly important in determining the outcome of many races - something with which most clued-up punters would agree - is not the same as saying you can predict it with accuracy, though it is well worth trying, imo. Anything that can be reduced to numbers - as many things in...

Coral Marathon - Sandown Saturday - an odds compiling exercise

Supposed to be launched for the Breeders' Cup. Judged on US, subjective odds compiling is more accurate than (my somewhat basic) automated ratings-to-odds. But marrying the two is more accurate still. ;-)
