Nice horse Argento Boy that took it's time finding out where his legs went. Half brother to Jazzaway , who gave us some great days even if we had to watch her Punchestown Festival win from home those faraway covid days.

Shuttle Diplomacy an ew bet to nothing for whatever Festival race he shows up in, (most likely a handicap) after that performance. With Daniel King riding it may well be the Martin Pipe.

    Cheltenham Trials Day- Saturday

The calcium -phosphorous ratio is the key along with the acidity caused by concentrate feeds. In a nutshell extra acidity in the bowel inhibits calcium absorption which may cause calcium depletion from bone.( The incidence of ulcers in racehorses could easily become the welfare issue to get...

Good job the hole was found now and not during Festival. Pelvic fractures are becoming more common methinks. My buddy who blames modern feeding regimes may well have a point.

    Thyestes Handicap Chase.

I was there in 2013 ; with heavy rain followed by frost you could have stirred the ground with a spoon and boy can it ride deep. With standing water today also it would have been called off but for the fact it is such a big day on the South Eastern social calendar.

I took 66/1 Home By The Lee Stayers Hurdle at mid day today, having a little ew on him at Gowran to fund my extravagance and bullock's notions, betting wise.

    2026 In Memoriam (Racing people)

Brian Lusk. Best known as trainer of Skymas , dual Champion Chase winner of 37races, Brian was a larger than life figure in Irish racing through the 1970s. Began life as a cattle dealer/exporter, took to training and could be seen as far south as Mallow in a pin striped suit cutting a dash, all...

    ITBA Stallion Trail 2026

Another fabulous weekend where there was a red carpet five star welcome for all and sundry as the studs put their best foot forward to welcome the public. Food , teas and coffees even a full silver service with free bar at Ballylinch meant the weary traveller was greatly refreshed for the road...

The Official Constitution Hill Thread 2025/26

In 2010 Binocular was "going nowhere fast " and was sent to Martinstown for a full NCT. Finding nothing astray he returned to NJH and won a Champion Hurdle. Maybe they should do the same with CH "for the sake of racing ". (or does such goodwill that had JP withdraw a Gold Cup runner so AP could...

Point Blank: Harry Cobden Has Sold His Soul to Wear the Green and Gold

What age is Harry now ? How long will JP be around to keep such a stable of horses and jockeys going ? Methinks this will be his last "big bucks "retained rider. There was an interesting quote from Barry Geraghty's autobiography where it said "it took Barry a while to get used to the requirement...

The 2026 Great Yorkshire (Handicap) Chase

I finally made it to Doncaster in 1989 , the year the St Leger was postponed when the drainage system caved in. I walked a circuit of the track to see the damage and cross over Rose Hill; it is a long taxing circuit.

The 2026 Great Yorkshire (Handicap) Chase

Jan 25 1978. As a huge Night Nurse and Bird's Nest fan I sat in front of my tv watching Sports Stadium in anticipation of this race, a 3 horse affair with Sweeps Hurdle winner Decent Fellow making up the field. A stormy day, the signal link with ITV failed and I watched as Brendan O'Reilly or...
