    The 2024 Longshot Thread

Cangofar 1.55 Redcar 33-1 WH , mid 70s BF but might yet go out. I'm expecting Tim Easterby's Almanzor colt to be better than shown at some point. TE lined up another Alamanzor - Candonomore - to run 2nd first time up in a York C3 novice last year at a big price. Cangofar has had two runs on...

    The 2024 Longshot Thread

That's odd (ish). Had a look earlier. DP said he's been going well at home. All best form looks to be in small fields but, theoretically, 10 ought to have been OK. In the absence of any other info (like a knock or something) have to asssume the ground is faster than first thought.

    Aftertiming thread

Thx Edgt, yeah I was thinking may have enough to win a two and a half novice, but further on it's when he goes up 3m+ and fences. Sadly, he did run through beaten horses to finish about 6th. Btn a longish way though, maybe enough to stay suitably off the radar for a bit.

    Aftertiming thread

I looked at the novice just finished at Carlisle this morning. Sue Smith yard hasn't (or hadn't) hit form yet. Figured it was only a matter of time. Her two runners here had an interesting look (at likely odds)...and the rest looked beatable if either of her two had anything (which, over...

    Algorithms

Ah that we don't know. But yes you could be right. And that would explain why we get limited or (losing, over time) accounts closed. It could be working with a balance towards risk factors rather than actual £s won over time (ie the risk that this punter could one day - or over a series of bets...

    Algorithms

I think that would make sense if a high percentage of your in running bets are successful (and/or maybe you had a few big hit winners that way). The algorithm would know that and, in theory, be able to adapt. But....that's likely only the case if we're talking about significant (ish) numbers...

    Algorithms

I think they just scattergun free spins (I get them too, and haven't been in the online casino section of a bookie for 15 years...well, at least for betting purposes, I do for research occasionally). I believe the premise is they have nothing to lose, and turning only a few horse racing punters...

    Algorithms

It would be impossible to manage manual monitoring of betting behaviours, and clearly monitoring (and associated reactions, if necessary to protect the bookmakers interests) is important from several angles. So, by inference, there must be algorithms that do the work. I asked...

Not a getting older thread but getting worried thread.

Put it this way. If you feel a (consistent-ish) pain and don't go see someone (no matter how long it takes to get the appointment(s)), there are a lot better chances it'll have an adverse effect at some point/further on than if you just leave it. Easy to say, I know. Not so easy to act on...

    Getting older

You might not want to dwell on it, Marb. And that's understandable. But can you say what the job was?

What are you backing Today? Part 2

Bit late now but on Saturday morning PN was pretty much saying he wouldn't be ready "fit enough to run, will improve, PP the target" And post race... "You can do all you like with them at home but nothing compares to a run. I was thrilled with Il Riditto on Saturday and hopefully he will run...

    The 2024 Longshot Thread

Quote David Pipe on Monday..."I would not be surprised if he were to run well again at the track on good ground. We do need a few horses not to be declared to ensure we get a run, but we plan to go, should we get in" It was officially soft last year but looked more like good to me, with a bit...

    Ante-Post Punting Plans/Propositions Thread.

Lucinda appears to be moderately concerned, although has high hopes for the season. "we are slightly worried about the ground as he would prefer softer conditions, especially first time out" Could be they'll let him go (if it's safe enough) just to get this run out of the way.

    Friday 4th October 2024

Don't dismiss Somebody's in future, this run will do no harm to some nice odds in a race a bit further on. LR wasn't expecting any fireworks... "she would ideally appreciate softer ground and even more of an emphasis on stamina than she will get here" (sorry would have posted here but didn't...

Best moment of your racing life.

Standing (well on my knees, praying through the tears which started about 50 yards off that final bend when it looked seriously like he was going to do it) in the middle of a packed Ladbrokes in Maidenhead, full of dead silent Kauto supporters (except me, although I loved him) as Imperial...
