Thanks Trudi. The winner was well handicapped but she was competitive on a track and ground that were probably a bit quick for her. A short break and then back towards the end of February.

Orbys River goes again at Rasen this afternoon. She was hiked 10lb for the win so we're running with a 7lb penalty today. She seems ok after the Ayr efforts but the ocean of 0-100 novice handicaps is full of sharks and it's a competitive enough race.

Horses you never forgave and couldn’t like

Desert Orchid at Cheltenham. Ten Plus would have won by 10 lengths.

    Classic Handicap Chase

There is a 59k handicap chase at Fairyhouse that has no runners representing either JP or Gigginstown.

    Chezza's next thoroughly-unsuitable GF semi-finals

On a point of order, Angela Rayner isn't from Manchester, she's a proud Stopfordian as am I.

    Arse Cup

He's a thoroughly decent man and when calling home Orbys River today, unlike the Racing TV 'experts', never queried why an ex-PtP mare that had finished second off 75 in a hurdle race would be competitive off 74 in a chase.

    Fresh for Cheltenham Festival?

I'd say that it depends on the horse and the campaign that it has had so far. In the case of Potters Charm, we're looking at a relatively young (ie immature) horse who started early and has had 4 runs in 3 months. He's probably earned a short break and getting him back from that break will take...

Road to the 2025 Champion Hurdle

As someone who has a few 7/1 tickets for the Brighterdaysahead (Mares) and Galopin Des Champs (Gold Cup) double, I'm pleased to hear the same line from the O'Learys, Kevin Blake and our own media personality. Fingers crossed that Constitution Hill stays sound to seal the deal.

Road to the 2025 Champion Hurdle

You wouldn't get any Irish mares in April because their mares championship is at Punchestown. It's also a G1 and worth about the same as the Cheltenham race.

Road to the 2025 Champion Hurdle

What KB was saying is that it was far faster at the start than Lossiemouth had ever been asked to go before but, crucially, also far faster than they go in the early stages of most Champion Hurdles. If they've been planning towards the Champion Hurdle for Lossiemouth for 2 years as has been...

Road to the 2025 Champion Hurdle

I'm pleasantly surprised that, amid the general euphoria, RPR has taken the conservative view that Constitution Hill was nowhere near his best yesterday. As DO has implied, rating a small field is difficult because you have to have a peg somewhere but the most logical reading for me is that...

    Boxing Day bestie's

On the basis that I don't believe either will be but the overuse of the phrase has worn me down, I'm inclined to do an "if they're back to their best" double on Constitution Hill and Il Est Francais which pays around 12/1. Chuck in "will win if he's as good as they say" Kopek Des Bordes in the...

    Top 3 Albums

My 3 picks were all from 1966 or 67 and it doesn't take much imagination to work out that they spanned my last year at school and first year at university. Freedom to choose between buying an LP or eating on a Sunday (I was in a hall of residence on half board terms except for Sunday). I'm quite...

    Top 3 Albums

The advent of CDs and then streaming has pretty much stuffed the idea of carefully crafted albums because it's so easy to pick out individual tracks. The likes of Neil Young and Paul Simon were very particular about the positioning of each song on an album. A few on here won't have heard of...
