It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s done it for a bet. In any case I doubt that we’re the intended audience for his makeover.

    Galway Festival 2025

Comparing Galway to Royal Ascot is pointless, you just shouldn’t do it. Galway is Newton Abbot, Chester, Windsor and Worcester with some classy 2yo maidens, novice chases and highly competitive feature races thrown in. No one needs to go there wearing a top hat and tails.

Flat Fixture List /Programme- what changes would you make ?

I would give serious consideration to abolishing handicaps, especially low grade ones.

These distinctions don’t apply in English as spoken in Ireland, Simmo. Probably because in Gaeilge the same verb serves for both meanings. But maybe I should pre-book a grammar course and go get some learnings.

It’s fair to say that Moon Mariner was disappointing last week. She didn’t appear to show much inclination or talent. Hopefully things will improve. This evening another of our crew makes her debut at Downpatrick. She’s very well bred, and her breeder, Patrick Mullins, decided to name her...

    Times they are a'changin'

There is one scandalous omission from that statement in your penultimate paragraph: Sea The Stars. Putting that aside, your point doesn’t make much sense anyway because you’re talking about a tiny number of horses that by definition don’t come along very often.

    The 2025 Eclipse Stakes

Apparently, in a gesture worthy of Emperor Nero, Coolmore sent as many as 150 of their own broodmares to Justify last year.

Moon Mariner makes her debut in this evening’s bumper at Roscommon. She’s quite nicely bred but so are one are two others in the race, and some of those who have already run have shown respectable form. But she’ll have the assistance of the best rider in the race and we’ll be hoping for a good run.

The 2025 Should Be Odds-On Thread

My impression was that Whirl outstayed Kalpana. I know, the trip was only 10 furlongs, but I thought Kalpana faltered at the furlong pole and was tying up after that.

Best of luck tomorrow. Now into evens, which looks about right to me. Good shout at 6/4.

    The 2025 Northumberland Plate (Handicap)

I always reckoned that a claimer riding a point and go sprinter was less of an issue than in a longer distance race where judgement of pace, getting a horse to settle and strength in a finish is needed on a tiring horse.

    Ascot Take Outs Day 5

Quite right. And spare a thought also for the laptop brigade trying to keep their bots from running amok while five separate meetings are going on. Reduce the intervals between races and their world will collapse.

    Irish Derby 2025

“The Curragh's…. largely handicap-fest card on Sunday.” Entirely right. I’ll probably end up going both days but Saturday’s card is much more interesting. https://www.irishracing.com/racecards/Sat-28th-Jun-2025

    Ascot Take Outs Day 5

I’ve been to Ascot a few times but never to Royal Ascot. I wouldn’t be able to cope with the dress codes and the general air of excess. When I was a teenager in the 1970s I imagined the top hats and tails would soon be gone. I never expected that 50 years later nothing would have changed. The...

Well done Coach, a fine performance. Me, I’m pleased with a top ten finish in a strong field. And delighted to have finished ahead of An Capall. Thanks again, Marb,
