What are you backing Today? Part 2

Agree. Sean Bowen never gives up, does he. Mind you, the market wasn’t that happy with Wendigo who had drifted from 8/13. Typical, isn’t it, that the only one to make a serious jumping mistake was the one with all the chase experience.

What are you backing Today? Part 2

A teaser. Pic Roc is the only one with chase experience running five times and showing up well at Class3. The rest are decent hurdlers with Wendigo the cream of the crop, but can he jump - Jamie Snowden thinks so. Can you risk it at odds-on though, or do you go with experience? And not...

    My notebook runners

Nice chase debut from Kingston Pride who had drifted to outsider of three (crazy price), due presumably to some worry about the ground turning soft. Shame the odds-on favourite Tripoli Flyer fell, but Kingston Pride had been jumping much the better and hadn’t even thought about putting in a...

Nice win from Alien Storm with some in hand. Jumping was a bit iffy in terms of speed lost over hurdles (favourite was even worse) and that’ll need to be sharpened up. I thought Nardaran won very easily - 4:10 - and looks as though he might have improved considerably from last season, although...

    Cheltenham Problems

Should switch it to October :p. Then it’d be out of the way and we could concentrate on all the other goodies in the box.

    Cheltenham Problems

As pointed out by Gullible earlier, there’s an arrogance about Cheltenham and they have fallen for the hype themselves. Thus, they believe they are untouchable and can soak the race goers as they wish, forgetting that it is supposed to be a showpiece event for the sport and not just a means of...

    My notebook runners

You can only spend so much time sorting out horses to follow and waiting for the notebook to build up before you start getting fed up and pining for some action. Give in. 3:40 Plumpton: Alien Storm - 22/9 headed over the last and just held by stablemate winner going down by three quarters of a...

    Jumping Whispers

Coo, that’s some start for jockey turned trainer Chester Williams. Has ten boxes at his mother’s yard and had his first two runners at Newton Abbott yesterday - both won.

    Oisin Murphy

Anyone see Haggas on Luck on Sunday "He's got away with blue murder on the racecourse for a while." William Haggas has expressed his frustration at Oisin Murphy's riding, claiming he has been guilty of "professional fouls" on the racecourse. Sporting Life headline SL article - William Haggas...

It’s a horror story, jj. I’ll kick their door in again when I go up to the gallops, although that’s not often nowadays.

    QIPCO British Champions Day

If they ran the race again I’d be surprised if the result would be much different however they chose to play the cards. I think the race was a “proper” one and sorted them out quite well. Almaqam is obviously better than was thought and I suppose the only slight question mark is whether it was...

There’s no sun so the far side won’t be drying quicker than the stands side which is in shadow from the stands when the sun shines.

    My notebook runners

Saturday 18th October That was a nice debut by Koapey, jumped well and wasn’t flogged to death in a fruitless chase of the winner. Promising. Champions Day today and it’ll be a super finale to the flat season, but not one to be risking house and furniture. I took Field Of Gold last evening and...

    My notebook runners

Friday 17th October Not much of interest today. I wasn’t expecting Koapey - 4:07 Uttoxeter - to go straight over fences this season rather than sticking to hurdles for a bit. Warren Greatrex knows what he’s up to, though, so it’ll be interesting to see how he goes and how the market reacts.

    Money for jumps

You might be waiting a bit :) “We are going to stick to hurdles. The plan is a Grade 2 Mares' Hurdle at Ascot in the middle of January. That race will tell us if she is good enough for the Mares' Hurdle (at Cheltenham) or if she's just a handicapper.”
