Exeter and the Devon & Cornwall meetings do this as well. And I think Wincanton maybe thinking about it.

Maureen did you watch the BBC2 documentary by Gordon Buchanan tonight on the Wild Horses of the Rockies? Well worth a watch if you didn't catch it.

Backing Venetia Williams' Chasers In November with Andrew Mount

As someone who worked their butt off (against a female prejudice at the time) to actually get a trainer's licence, it's entirely worthy of me! So this is often how conversations used to go: "Hi, I am thinking of running XXXX at such and such a racecourse a week on Saturday" "Oh no, my that's...

This is excellent advice, Gordon. I've seen plenty especially those once a year attendees who turn up in a pair of trainers which they regret very quickly. I invariably look about three stone heavier than normal on a brisk winter day at Larkhill!

He was just slightly before my time but we do still award his trophy at the Awards evening every July (thankfully I have handed over the baton to someone else having organised it single handed for the last 6 years). Teresa thought about retiring the trophy as there was a real shortage of...

Backing Venetia Williams' Chasers In November with Andrew Mount

Dear oh dear, a little lapse in form and a trainer who has won nearly £6m in prize money over the last five years and her chosen jockey who has won just over £5m aren't good enough any more? Will the two of you now be stepping them in to show them how it's done?

    Kempton Park, "change" and "tradition"

I thought it had been built on years ago just after it closed. I was sorry to see it go but ARC are barstewards when it comes to running down racecourses. I actually trained my first winner there although she wasn't in my name as I hadn't got my licence then. She was an incredibly fragile...

    What are you watching

Nothing Christmassy? But the number 1 Christmas film Die Hard (the original) is on! Yippee Kay Yay MF and all that (or was that the second one?) There is actually a pointer called Yippee Kay Yay and he's quite good. I have failed sadly to get the course commentator to add the MF on to the end...

Yes I agree but sometimes trainers have slow seasons. She may have had a bug in the yard which she has chosen not to disclose and so they are behind where they would normally be. She's pretty hard on her horses fitness wise compared to most trainers.

Well yards go in and out of form as we all know. We expect Venetia's to hit form as soon as it rains but possibly they are more behind for whatever reason. I'd never give up on her - the lady is a class trainer and I for one will retain my faith in her.

    TV coverage

Just watched the Graham Lee documentary, Life Beyond the Fall which was on after the racing on ITV4. Well worth a watch and very humbling that he's remained so positive. Highly recommend watching it on catch up TV.

    The 2025 Longshot Thread

Funny old race which was stop/start and several including Alexei pulled a bit too hard which didn't help hugely. Lugging 12st in that loose ground plus allowing the winner to get first run was just too much. He will come back from that....and still win me some more Darkie points hopefully.
