    The 2025 Longshot Thread

Re-long losing runs, I can only speak for myself, but I assume from reading Maurice's contributions, that this also applies to him, that longshots and just part of the wider portfolio, Wals. Yes, I can lose on a few longshots but still turn in profit on other things, let's say on one of Ian's...

Is There Any Good Bookies These Days ?

I've a hunch a bookmaker losing however minimal an amount qualifies as being 'absolutely filled in' these days.

What are you backing Today? Part 2

I think Melon is drifting to too big a price in the 1.15 and am happy to back it at these odds. He's won twice after a break, has his first start this season, and is open to plenty of improvement, especially if he learns to settle down, not racing overly keen. I shall not let this drift put...

The trainer who uses Jackdaws Castle, Jonjo O Neill, was once described to me on the Neigh Forum many years ago as being the biggest gangster in Irish racing. That takes some doing.

The only honest thing I can say about money, is that I'm glad I haven't had any hungry stomachs to feed other than my own these past 40 years. 😂😁👍

It's old news and certainly very little to do with whether he can get a winner. This stuff goes on everyday, all day, all over the world anyway, it's pretty run of the mill stuff to people involved in high finance.

Err, answer, yes. He's also apparantly quite close the bloke who runs Coolmore stud in Ireland. They can get a few winners. 😂 If you don't like the horses don't back them.

The 2025 December Gold Cup Handicap Chase

Venetia has shown she can still train a winner today with Djelo. I want to see Martator in the confirmations tomorrow. He improved a stone and a half on official ratings last year, and his last performance was a step in the right direction. I'd probably want decent ground for him and nothing...

If Venetia could be described as cream, then she should rise back up soon.

    Irish Sunday Racing Thread

If it's anything like England the bus drivers will be requesting more money. I mean, I'm all in favour of this of course, but at least keep providing the service.

I'm hoping things get better for Venetia towards the end of this week. The Famous Five is entered up in a class 3 at Bangor on Friday, so I await to see if he's declared there. Then we have the December Gold Cup on Saturday, where I think Martator could be stonkingly good value, at double...

Backing Venetia Williams' Chasers In November with Andrew Mount

Yes, I'd like to know what you think about him, even if you want to take him on, Ian. I'm aware he was beaten at short odds last season, but he's now a second season chaser and my hope is, he's the scope to kick on and improve again this season. We should find out on Saturday.

Backing Venetia Williams' Chasers In November with Andrew Mount

The Famous Five is entered in the 1.30 class two race at Aintree on Saturday. He had an entry at Newcastle recently in a lower class race, and another entry for this Friday, again in a lower class race, but was taken out today. Perhaps this is a sign the horse has been working well at home and...

What are you backing Today? Part 2

I was hoping the market had let mine drift incorrectly, and that given all Ocean Heights form was from up on the pace, he'd at least be ridden that way today. Needless to say, he ends up being held up last. Humble pie eh.
