    The 2025 Suffolk Handicap

I've backed Dutch Decoy (10/1, 4 places). Figures and reasoning on Saturday.

    Oisin Murphy

He only missed one day's rides so at least he couldn't have been badly injured. Presumably he'd have had to provide a sample, as a matter of routine, before riding on the Monday. Hopefully the injured person makes a full recovery. And let due process take its course.

    Bet365 up for sale

Thanks, NC. I did experiment with spreads some years ago but worked out that they weren't offering the same value as the fixed odds markets once they started going six and more places in the big races and offering BOGs etc. I might have another look.

    Bet365 up for sale

I reckon this will push me closer to giving up betting. B365 is the only firm that has never restricted me bar withdrawing special offers like the free bet if you back a 4/1 winner in a TV race but they might have withdrawn that completely anyway. I'm not sure. I'm not sure if it's just me but...

    The 2025 2000 Guineas

It actually gives me further cause for optimism for Green Impact as it makes me wonder if they're sure SOL can't run to 120 at a mile and Ruling Court will have to find another 8lbs from somewhere to do so, whereas I'm always looking for something that can hit 125/6 on the day. I'm not convinced...

    The 2025 2000 Guineas

I see Buick has opted for Ruling Court over Shadow Of Light.

    Punchestown

If they get him down the ratings a bit. (Right now I'm thinking Intense Raffles might be my Ben Nevis in 2026.)

    Punchestown

Spillane's Tower is rated 164 and was touted right left and centre for the King George. INTWYT was rated 160 going into the CGC. Monty's Star was 13 lengths behind GDC at Cheltenham, over 24 behind him today. ST and MS ran close to their relative ORs. On ORs, GDC was entitled to beat MS...

    The 2025 2000 Guineas

There is a degree of contradiction with SR's analysis in saying they went steady when 'his' pace map shows Fast-Slow-Fast for the race. 38/39mph doesn't strike me as being that fast (there was a race, not a sprint, recently in which they clocked 40+mph for a lot of it) but maybe in soft ground...

    The 2025 2000 Guineas

I've only just had a look at the 5-day field and I have to say I'm not exactly overawed. The top OR in the field is 120 (Shadow Of Light) and the top RPR is 117 (Shadow, Field of Gold and Henri Matisse), hardly knock-your-socks-off figures. It actually gives me a wee bit more hope about Green...

Even bigger news than the USA Presidential Election Result....

I think that must be a local thing, Ian. I've never seen it up here in Chillychillyjockoland (Walsworth will probably get the reference) but it sounds to me like it would be dynamite. Fingers crossed it does find its way up here but if you aren't getting Strachan's Tablet ice cream it would...

People paying by card at cash and card self-service tills in Tesco when there are only two such cash options

:ROFLMAO: We haven't met, simmo, so it isn't you. It was someone I used to work with. I also prefer to back my bags myself, one of the reasons I lke the likes of Aldi & Lidl. I'm happy to get my stuff through the checkout fast nad back into the trolley and then I can take my time organising...

    The 2025 2000 Guineas

True. I'd forgotten about that one. On the Standard Times I use, only the following take 1m40s or more for the mile: Ascot (Rnd) Pontefract Sandown The Rowley Mile would be among the slower miles and while, topographically, I would agree that it isn't 'stiff' I do believe you need a genuine...

    The 2025 2000 Guineas

I reckon few straight miles are easy. Horses don't get the chance to 'fill up' at halfway like they do in round course races where forces of nature compel them to slow down to take the turn(s). Newmarket would, though, be one of the easier ones but it would be harder than any round-course mile...

The 2025 Thirsk Hunt Cup (Handicap)

It's one of those races that, while not worth the £100k ones I prefer, I always at least like to check out since it is one of those 'traditional' races (and probably deserves 'Heritage' status) that certain trainers/connections like to target. Another such race for me is the Ripon Rowells even...

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

It looked to me like it was the collision with the other horse that caused the damage rather than the fall. Just dreadfully unlucky.

    The 2025 Chester Cup (Handicap)

I love the Suffolk, one of my favourite early-season big handicaps whether I find the winner or not because it often throws up future winners. I'll definitely be studying it. I haven't looked at the Chester Cup yet.

    The Mullins Machine

Willie is 3/1 (Hills) to win the UK trainers' title next season. I think that is a gift. Unfortunately they restricted me to a tiny fraction of what I wanted to put on so I might have to pop into town during the week and do a wee trawl of their branches to get on. A bit of me thinks I should...

What are you backing Today? Part 2

That'll do, pig, that'll do... I'm looking forward to analysing this race. It looks pretty decent. Guyon seemed quite pleased to have won.

What are you backing Today? Part 2

I've taken a modest win bet on Sosie (7/2) in the Ganay. The favourite has improved this spring but Sosie was a better 3yo and could also improve a fair bit.
