2007 Films

There was a review of teh new Brad Pitt film on the radio last week - that sounds pretty good ( and Im not BP fan at all, so its not hormones talking!) - also the last king of Scotland looks pretty interesting.

ummm......

Some dictator who died a couple of years ago.The young lad gets sucked into his circle by the old guy being nice to him, then it all goes pear shaped.

Cant remember any more than that Jon - but I know the reviewer was very impressed and its got Forest someone in it as the bloke. Idi Amin I think?

( Im not going ot be taking over from Jonathan Ross very soon am I?!!!! )

The Last King of Scotland

Just found this on passion for cinema

A couple of days ago I finally found time to watch “The Last King of Scotland”, a thrilling film about a young Scottish doctor and his tryst with one of the most ruthless men in the history of mankind. Quite frankly, this one’s the best thrillers I’ve seen since “Syriana”. It’s quite brilliantly shot and cut. For it’s 2 hour running time, the film is incredibly fast paced.

The performances by the entire cast are of superior quality, but it’s Forest Whittaker’s film all the way. I could think of many other actors whose facial features would match Idi Amin a lot more than Whittaker’s, but none could have brought about the spontaneity and exhuberance in this role the way Whittaker did. His body language is phenomenal and the chilling charisma he brings to the character is simply frightening. Of course, the Oscar buzz for Whittaker began spreading a few months ago, but this is not Whittaker’s first stellar role. Recognition comes more deserving for this phenomenal actor, especially after he was shamefully ignored for his leading role in Jim Jarmusch’s “Ghost Dog - Way of the Samurai”.
Go watch it before it slips out of the theaters (I hope this film releases in India). This one is for the big screen, not for DVD.

Thanks muchly, troodles. I saw Forest in Ghost Dog and he was terrific. I'm not sure about old Idiot Amin being 'one of the most ruthless men in the history of mankind', though, since I think half the world would be hard-pressed to remember which country he headed, for a start! Thoroughly unpleasant piece of work, but probably Bokassa could've given him a fair run for his money in the Mad Leader Stakes, in terms of recent history. However, the film sounds intriguing and FW is a very fine actor, so I'll probably wait for it to hit cable in due course.

the very odd woman who reviewed it ( was on Radio 2 sat night) was certainally very positive about the film. And the Brad "bleugh" Pittt one which has one word title and it begins with B but I cant remember what it was....

BARF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like my men a bit rugged Dom - (and a little bit chubby - hes too skinny as well!! )
trudij would fancy the arse off me if we met. No question.

What was that film, Pee, where he played a captured soldier (something to do with the Oirish Troubles?) who was eventually murdered by his captors? Rivetting work in that - he made the man so human, not full of American-style gung-ho kick-ass crap.

Forest Whitaker is immense in the fith series of The Shield. No show on television has a better stable of actors.

Series 2 of The West Wing, acting and writing in perfect harmony

I THOUGHT it was The Crying Game, then decided that was too far back! Thanks, o/b. He's a real screen-filler in The Shield. Somehow, when he's on, you really pay attention to him. He isn't just another good actor - there's a kind of electricity about him which makes him a stand-out. I could see him doing a wonderful 'Othello' (if he hasn't already).

The West Wing destroys it, episodes like Noel and 2 Cathedrals will never be bettered

I'm making my way through the entire 7 seasons via the boxset I mentioned elsewhere, and just watched Two Cathedrals. Incredible stuff; people are quick to slag off America as stupid and uncultured, yet here was one of the most crucial episodes of one of the then most-watched TV series, and the main character spends the pivotal scene in an empty cathedral ranting at God in Latin.
