Champagne Fever is favourite for the Arkle. WM has indicated that the Fever will go chasing next season. He did the same after the horse had won the Bumper last year. At the time I backed CF for this year's RSA (including with monies won in the comp. last year. I see that Tom Segal shares my view that CF will potentially turn out to be a top staying chaser, Segal thinking Gold Cup contender in time. With Mullins you can't be certain of targets and I suggest that a bet for the Arkle should be a cautious one.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a future Gold Cup contender, history would strongly suggest you go for the Arkle..

I'm not convinced they will step him up, TS. He may have disappointed in the Neptune, but connections pretty-much view Pont Alexandre as their future Gold Cup horse.

I can see CF running in the Jewson because I reckon he'll get drilled for toe in a 2m chase - especially if (as I hope) Jezki is sent over fences next season.

We had a massive debate on this once where I bet BarTheBull €150 I could make more money than a 1/3 three month bet that was a 'certainty'. Although I'm adamant I was right in principal I lost the bet. The thread was highly amusing all the same when I went on tilt.

Is the thread still around, does anyone know?

Do you guys ever consider how many times you could turn over the capital you have locked-in to long range ante-post bets?
Just asking the question, you understand.

In any normal year, I could probably turn my ante-post capital over in an afternoon's betting on F1.

I rarely enter the markets before October anyway, and enjoy the intellectual puzzle associated with trying to unpick a race some months beforehand. Unless I have any particularly strong opinions (I confess I did this year), I will generally avoid the shorties, and instead focus on much more speculative tilts. Solwhit winning the Stayers being by far the best example I can think of from this season's book (unless I include my AP bet on Al Ferof in the PPGC).

Had a bet or two in the last week to add to the best I placed in the spring.

Champion Hurdle:
Jezki £13w @ 20/1
My Tent or Yours £20w @ 95/10

RSA:
Clondaw Kaempfer £4w @ 109/1

Jewson:
Chatterbox £10w @ 25/1 (NRFB)

World Hurdle:
Monksland £5w @ 28/1

Jezki by far and away the value in the CH market if he's staying over hurdles. Supreme Novices defeat was after interrupted prep, and he cuffed them in Punchestown. 20/1 an insult to his chance.

Who is the 20's with, euro?
