2025 Morebattle (Handicap) Hurdle

Favour And Fortune achieved his best mark in the Scottish CH at Ayr and very nearly matched it last time at Newbury in the Class1 William Hill. According to King he’d do better on decent ground (although it was soft on the aforementioned runs) and it looks as though he’ll be likely to get it.

I've had to reduce the page size to fit it into a screen shot so apologies if it isn't the clearest read in the world. I've also highlighted my own (MON) ratings and notes for clarity. The figure immediately below 9MON) is my target figure on the scale. I'm always looking for something I think can at least hit, and ideally beat, that figure, the further the better.

If Tripoli Flyer is potentially rated between 145 and 150 ( gave 3 pounds to Miami Magic (139) and beat it by over 7l on Saturday ) then the only horse to have beaten Tripoli Flyer over hurdles so far must be fairly well handicapped off 127. Jurancon was also Martin Pipe's horse to follow this season in something I noted last autumn in the Weatherbys jumpers guide online.
Jurancon (2/1f) won the 3:05 six-runner handicap hurdle today at Newbury collecting nearly £11,000 prize money. They're biding their time before they target a big race.

Copied from the longshot thread:

Two so far in the Morebattle:

Cormier 33/1, 5 places, & Old Gregorian 40/1, 5 places

Cormier is no stranger to us on the forum but had a month short of two years away from hurdles before his comeback run last month. His OR went up to 139 (from 134) for winning this race in 2022 and off which he ran very well behind State Man in the County on his next start. His form nosedived after that and it's possible he was soured by two hard races. Whether they have him anywhere near his old self is unlikely but Ellison is nobody's mug and I'm not sure why he would even enter the old fella up for this and the three big handicap hurdles at the festival if he was gone at the game. The handicapper has maybe made their minds up for them as he is back down to 124 and young Maggs takes off another 5lbs so it's maybe now or the milk round next week.

Old Gregorian is a different type altogether, a lightly raced second-season novice who isn't too far off the top of my ratings and his rider, with a 19% strike rate for the trainer - 68% in the first four - takes off another 7lbs.

I'll be happy if one covers both bets.
Nice place D.
