Imagine I have a nuclear bomb in my living room, just sitting next to my television. I am about 3 feet from it, sitting on my chair. If I detonate it, would I need to buy a new television or would the blast just cause minimal damage? Would it depend how windy it is etc?

I have heard about the tinfoil idea before. Not sure about it though. I know I'd be fine, but it's tv I'd be worried about, being so close to the actual blast.

Wrap yourself and the telly in bubble wrap and take shelter in the cupboard under the stairs.

Wasn't it more of a ditch he hid in?

Phil - we need more info on the TV, is it LCD, Plasma, CRT?

CRT televisions have much more substance to them and also lots of glass that LCD and Plasma don't have. This could mean collateral damage

Sorry, Phil. I lost the plot there for a second. Is it an airburst bomb or a suitcase nuke?

The television is an LCD HD by Samsung. It has been replaced due to the first model putting itself onto stand-by whenever it felt like it.

The nuclear bomb is a bogstandard neutron bomb.

We could be ok, friends.

Taken from Wikipedia -

a neutron bomb is a nuclear weapon that yields a relatively small explosion but a relatively large amount of prompt radiation

Success!

Cha! Neutron bombs, schbombs. Two a penny. What you want is a dirty bomb, mate. It won't keep its room tidy, or wash up, and never makes its bed, but it'll leave the tv in splendid condition for someone to use in, oh, say, 10 years time, while you can remain sitting in your chair very comfortably, just liquefacting into goo.

Merlin has an obsession with Lidl's which is becoming slightly unhealthy. I suspect that he spends hours at night logging on to their website, just to lust over their BOGOFs and managers' specials.

Ah, so now I know why there were 7 riot vans & 15 patrol cars outside AWE at 0630 yesterday morning - Phil's been nicking nukes!!

Ok, I've been reading up on this subject a bit. It seems that I might have to move slightly further away from my current 3 feet proximity in order to avoid being injured when the nuclear bomb goes off.
