A quiet Forum

I think the value this place has over twatter is the long term relationships, positions and discussions. Twitter is like cocaine (or so a friend tells me.) Feel good for a few minutes - useless afterwards. I think we should forget about the speed boat and fix the oil tanker.
This sums it up perfectly for me. Hopefully the switch from October to November, and the Comps will get people posting again.

A major cause of voluntary and involuntary exits is the ranting on Chit Chat.
That's a very good point Archie, and you're absolutely right. Too many people over the years have gone because of stuff that escalated in there.

I also daresay if it hadn't been so quiet over the last couple of months there may well have been some more arguments given some the prominent topics and their content.

Agreed. You want to discuss politics etc the join a political forum, not a horse racing one. Arguments engaged in there are a needless negativity for this one.

Chit chat aside, the sports forum used to be great fun but that is very quite now

Not a huge biggie, I came here for the racing

As posters, it's up to us to create more interesting posts, ongoing topics, remain moderately civil to each other and maybe have more people share race days experiences on the forum

Few pictures, commentary on how various horses looked, experiences of being an owner and what needs to be improved on racedays

Take the chance to meet up if the opportunity presents itself to meet up and say hello

Very much agree. Politics mixed into a Sports forum isn't really my cup of tea. If you want that and the underlying beefs it creates go on the betfair forum.

As in the real world regardless of how passionately you feel about xyz or how 'correct' you think you are, others are going have diametrically opposing viewpoints and your deepest held beliefs ain't worth sh&t to them.

Twatter? Nah not for me.

Another issue can be the ratio of contributors vs lurkers/or at best contribute v little.

I've seen examples where certain areas of a forum are restricted to those who actually have anything worth while to say.

I was on quite a nice by invitation only forum for a while, didn't have a lot of members but was top quality stuff while it lasted. The owner didn't really actively pursue new members enough so it died off after a few years.

I rarely visit here now, not really sure why to be honest.
Don't really feel that I have much to contribute any way, I'm stil trying to find the ideal system that would work for jumps and flat racing.
I belong to a couple of other forums but rarely seem to contribute there either.

Pick a few novices early and no matter what defend them on here all winter

13 years is a fine innings

A quick look at the archives shows that threads relating to the major Cheltenham Festival races that are started in October and November attract a very large number of posts, up to six figures in some instances. Other threads for races such as the Ladbroke and King George do well and all help build up interest and anticipation in the wider forum. Some of the threads for races races such as the Champion Hurdle and the Gold Cup have not only provoked debate but not infrequently given good guidance to some unlikely( profitable) results.
Might it be a good idea for individual members to promote a particular ‘race thread’. Grassy’s contributions to Champion Hurdle threads were a major factor in some of them being amongst those that generated a huge number of posts.

There are many very knowledgeable members as well as many more that can make interesting contributions based on long experience. The racing section of the Forum has traditionally been a place where one can exchange views and float ideas which can be debated and at times dissected. Differing opinions make good discussion and no one should feel wary of posting their view.

I admit I'm not the most knowledgeable, but you guys are infinitely patient and kind and indulgent. I often read and don't reply but have gained something from reading. I like flat racing, but prefer jumps. Nothing to do with BBB ( who's ready to go by the way....... nerves kicking in already.....going for big fences this year..... )
Plus we have just really cleared the end of summer hols etc... It will pick up. :)

Let's hope you won't be having to change your signature to Daydream Believer any time soon, G-G :D

Indeed, I was a big fan as a young lad back in the 60s. Wore a woolly hat like MN did and bought the Monkees monthly magazines :)
