Every now and again this flashes onscreen. I click on and go so far but always abort when it says do I accept all terms and conditions because I don't really know what I'm accepting. Given that my computer is painfully slow should I just agree to it? I'm also about to buy the Norton Security package as I still worry about buying things online and it will save me a fortune [although I'll probably do a lot of impulse buying on Amazon!]. I know you can download free ones but I worry terribly about anyone being able to get hold of the meagre amount that's in my bank account at the moment [times is 'ard]. Thanks for advice re itune vouchers, by the way. Went down very well on Christmas Day. I just couldn't get it out of my head that it wasn't just about music for a while.

Don't bother with Norton, whatever you do! You can download Miscrosoft Security Essentials for free which a guy in the PC repair shop I went to in the summer told me is one of the best these days and also always updated. Have had no issues with it at all.

Agreeing with all the comments above.
Avoid Norton like the plague.

Even when your yearly sub expires, trying to clean your system of Norton is a nightmare. Welcome to the world of pop-up "reminders" etc etc.
Genuinely, I think Norton is as bad as having Malware on your PC; it is actually a f***ing planted virus in itself as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, there's damn fine freebie alternatives out there -- Avast, Avira etc.

My son just recommended the AVG one; said to just stick with the free one. I'd be so lost without my pooter I'm always scared I'll do something to stop it working [although would love to blow the one up at work grrrr].

I know how you feel, but as Dave says above I have have used Microsoft Security Essentials for a couple of years now without any problems.

Ho Mo it's hard to tell anyone what they should do without knowing your spec but if your computer is really slow maybe you should first check why before installing anything else. Belarc which can be downloaded gives you a complete run down of whats installed and your spec which you can copy and paste on here if you wish.

There's also a great FREE site that will find the obvious and tell you what you can do to improve performance if possible.

Using INTERNET EXPLORER go here http://www.pcpitstop.com/

Click on Overdrive it's on the left

When the next page opens go to the bottom and click on run OverDrive anonymously.

on the next page click don't create an account

on the next page you will get a message this webpage wants to install the following add on.....it's 100% safe click install

A box will open up do you want to instal this software click install

That will take you back to a previous page again click do not create an account

That will open up another page click LETS GO

A box comes up click OK then sit back and relax.............it takes only a few minutes with check your video card, your drives will advise you if you need to clean out junk box tell you if you should install more ram etc.

If it's not the lack of ram I might be able to put you on to a very good program that will look after most things on your comp and keep it running smoothly with no effort from yourself...it's not free but there are ways and means of making it free :0)

Don't be buying anything especially not Norton as the guys say it hoards memory and is a pain in the backside.

The best is ESET if you are going to buy a antivirus but there's no real need these days Microsoft is as good as any.

A good anti spyware is essential if you don't already have one........http://www.safer-networking.org/dl/ Download Spybot 2 Free Edition malware and spyware are notorious for slowing down computers.

I'm with tanlic, sounds as if your computer has malware that's slowing it down.save your money and get your computer cleaned up and download a freebie

I've got spy ware. Mind you our village is notoriously bad for internet stuff; supposedly it's going to be improved next year. If I was able to use my credit card online I'd probably spend more morey than I'd save so maybe I'm better off being scared to! I'd also be tempted to have bets online and that would be me on a slippery slope....
