Ok, what are your personal all time classic albums? I mean classics too, not just good albums. Mine woud have to be -

Pink Floyd - The Wall
Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms
R.E.M. - Out Of Time
U2 - The Joshua Tree

B)

Out of Time is a good album , Pink Floyd is OK but overrated - Dire Straits , their dirges are summed up by the first word of their name U2 the most overrated band of all time

You wha?????? Pink Floyd overrated??? U2 overrated?????? Dire Straits dire??????? What in the name of God do you rate as decent then??!!! :o :P :D

Great albums? Dire Straits? I hated the Floyd.

It depends what mood I'm in really.

The older CD's which I play the most are probably:

London Calling - Clash
Automatic for the People - REM
Morning Glory - Oasis

Without doubt the best album by a single artist I have, or am ever likely to have, is Money for nothing by Dire Straits. But that's a greatest hits album so it wouldn't really count. In my experience most albums never have more than 3 or 4 decent tracks, so I can't nominate a single one.

The Stone Roses - Eponymous
Radiohead - OK Computer
Orbital - The Brown Album
The Clash - London Calling

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon.
Delicate Sound of Thunder.

Genesis - Seconds Out.

Rick Wakeman - King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours.

.

Saw PF perform The Wall at Earls Court, amazing stuff especially the guitar solo by Dave Gilmour picked out by a searchlight on top of the wall during Comfortably Numb. You have to get into the whole concept to appreciate the album but lets face it, millions did although the film didn't do it justice. Definitely a classic album.

Dark Side of the Moon too in it's time.

My favourite album of all time is

Divine Comedy - Promenade

Other than that PDJ's first two above are amazing.

Pixies - Surfer Rosa deserves inclusion.

whos next-the who mainly for the anthem

clash london calling

crusadors street life

U2 the most overrated band of all time
I can not believe that I was going to read something like this in my life.

In fact I consider tham on of the best of all time if not the best.

I'm sure I read somewhere that there was an Irish band providing funds to the IRA in the 1980's. Not sure what effect this would have had on their music.

These may not be to everyone's taste, and maybe too shallow for others, but I keep going back to them..........

Queen - A Day At The Races
Radiohead - OK Computer
Moby - Play
David Gray - White Ladder
Janis Joplin - Greatest Hits (1973)

Garney, Doolittle is better than Surfer Rosa I reckon

I would also add

Public Enemy -It takes a Nation of Millions to Hold us Back

I doubt if any of those mentioned so far would qualify as class.

Surely personal tastes in music are just that: personal.

I won't put up any of my list for fear of ridicule, with one exception. Sgt Pepper's.

OK Computer qualifies as class, being the best album of the last 10 years bar none.
