America V North Korea

Good on ya.
It had seemed to me from your posts that you got your information exclusively from the Guardian newspaper; I'm glad you cleared up that misconception.

Some would say there isnt much difference. The pentagon are clearly saying that through gritted teeth and dont believe a word of it. All just to get the nutter to belt up

The guardian will routinely blame everything on america of course and no doubt are trying to find a way of blaming the jewish state too

Icebreaker, my post was a straightforward reprise of what I read on the BBC website. It wasn't intended as a swipe at you personally, it merely reponded to your suggestion that Hamm's post was "bizarre".

I don't see why you feel the need to make such an almighty tit of yourself, with this nonsense.

There's a pair of tits in it, then !
I'll nip off upstairs for some yogic meditation, and will refrain from bothering this thread any further.

There would be plenty of guardian readers (and shall I link their article strongly defending the northkorean regime? ) squealing like stuck pigs if America didn't come to our assistance if we had an unhinged neighbour throwing threats around and moving missiles

Korea gets the left in a right mess. The perfect example of the complete and utter failure of communism and the wonderful success of a free market just over the border. South Koreans GDP was less than that of most African countries in the 50s and now look

The South has Samsung and the north has starvation

Bit disingenuous to use North Korea as an example of communism, Clive.

Ruled by meglomaniac dictators for a number of years now.

By the way I have never thought that communism worked in practice, lovely theory spoiled by human nature.

I'd like to see a link, Clivex. I can't believe anyone, anywhere, would be defending the North Korean regime - let alone strongly.

Grass. It was on the only in the guardian thread here and you commented n it. Wasn't long ago either so clearly age is catching up with you. I would be careful next time you go for a walk in case you can't get back

Colin. It's probably the nearest example we have but it doesn't matter of course. It's a failed ideaology on all levels

I remember it now, and have gone back for a look.

I guess the lesson to draw from all this, is that not all Guardian readers agree with all Guardian articles.

Regarding newspapers: I like the idea of people forming their own views, and fail to fully see how being a Guardian or Daily Mail reader should wholeheartedly inform us on an issue like North Korea.

Basically, as a student of journalism with an interest in politics, I find it fascinating that people like to have certain views reinforced to them via a newspaper, whether Mail or Guardian.

My own views on many issues would tend to come and change through real life experiences of events, changes and occurrences I see in society, and hence I am open to change or changing my opinion.

Far to many people on both the left and right, but more predominately the right are unable to think for themselves and take their own position, and instead end up regurgitating the views of newspapers.

That's what I like about people doing blogs and putting their own slant on events if they can. I'll be looking to start my own blog in the summer about mental health which is my area of expertise.

i'll just make a point that crops up a lot on this part of the forum..I find it a little annoying

I personally don't read any newspaper..I find most of them rubbishy bollocks...i do watch the news most nights just so as i do actually know what day it is ....but as soon as people pass any opinion on here you get someone accusing them of being a Mail reader or whatever

why does having an opinion HAVE to automatically mean you have no way of formulating your own opinion... but just follow a certain newspaper's views?

I'm like you EC1 re newspapers, and I understand what your saying.

I wasn't saying people on here can't make their own opinion, just really talking about a wider pattern I see in society.

My newspaper studying days were (scarily) as a boy and teenager, though I'll obviously still buy one if I see a story in it that is actually of interest to me. I'm not usually bored enough to have to read one as some people do, I usually have plenty to do in a day. Maybe I'll get back into them again....

I was a keen follower of news from a very young age, I spent about six months after September 11th when I should have been doing A Levels just watching Sky News! I found it so interesting. Nowadays I just see so much repetition in news and very few new things emerging, unless its a new study by bored people at universities telling us eggs are bad for us or something like that!:)

Sept 11 doing A levels?
I feel old:(

There is no telling how a paranoid leadership of a failed idealogy will behave.

To blame the US for this is absurd

to the first, comunism is well known of his behaviour

about the blaming
USA is blamed of everything , why not on this one?

George Galloway praising the north korean regime this week

Although he said he wouldn't live there "because they do not believe in god" (that's he only reason?) you could easily read the subtext of what he said as being genuine praise for the oppression, mass conformity and complete lack of Individual
human rights
