Just curious why do some on here choose not to show if they are viewing the board or not?I find it handy seeing if the person I am responding to is online...encourges me to stick around for a bit to see if I get a quick response.

Often wondered about this too, but with the amount of mithering some members of this forum get off me via pm, I just assumed it was them... :(

Ted and Warbler, why don't you say something?
Christ the most unusual request that's ever been made of me I think

To the best of my knowledge, I'm not sure I know how to appear as anonymous? It's not unheard of for me to leave a thread open for hours at a time however, whilst I'm off doing other things, which can give the impression that you're lurking  when in actual fact you're no where near the PC

One class of 'Anonymous' is made up of the members who have, for whatever reason, decided to withdraw from actively contributing to the forum. They 'look in' and see what's going on, but they've often had a bust-up with someone who's still active, or someone regularly pisses them off, so they prefer to stay hidden in the rhododendrons. We know who you are...
