Another Newbie

The last time I saw a thread this entertaining was on Direct Racing when a guy called "The Fly" used to post. He had the best staking plan ever, Slim will appreciate this. He used to put selections up, if they won, he had £1000 on them, but if they lost he only had 50p on them. Made a fortune.
I think I may have missed your point when I replied hurriedly earlier. Do you mean the person in question posted the results but was trying to make it look like they were always on the "winning side" even when they lost?

I've had to unwatch this thread as it was making my notifications go off like an Uzi, but I'm taking a daily look and THR seems a genial chap - it's all good.

Morning one and all

I am seeking advice from those far more experienced than myself.

A couple of my friends have asked me if I would consider running a syndicate.
My first reaction was to reply "Sounds like a headache".

Does anyone have any experience of this and if so, what are the benefits (Not sure I can see any at present) and drawbacks, beyond the obvious risk of loss involved.

As well as you receiving general advice maybe someone who's on TH will DM you to give you their take on syndicates.

GL on your journey.

Thank you

I am not entirely sure that I want to embark on this particular journey. I really need to understand the pro's and con's
They are long term friends, which could go either way... I should also add they are American, with a slightly different mindset to us Brits.
If I am only making the same money as them, there is no real reason for me to embark on that particular journey.

My father had a syndicate for buying / renovating classic cars back in the 80's / 90's
Everything went well for almost 2 decades until one of the syndicate members cheated on his wife and divorced followed.
Somehow, for reasons I will never understand, it cost my father both time and money.

one more question @2017diary and @an capall if I may

I heave read posts from others about other forums, but those members are choosing to post here.
Is this the best forum for Horse racing in the UK and Ireland?

So far I have been fortunate enough to receive good, honest and clear advice from other members including yourselves.

I am just wondering why other forums are mentioned? Is it because they were good in the past and are now the equivalent of MySpace :)

It's the forum I post on, so obviously.

Chris Beek was, I think it's fair to say, a disreputable character - some tongue-in-cheek material above.

Racehorse ownership is a more prolonged way of losing money than flushing it the loo, syndicates complicate the process still further, but that's just my take on it - some enjoy one or both enormously.

It's not for me, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be for you.

Thanks @Ian_Davies

I realise I should have worded myself differently.

They are asking me to create a betting syndicate and operate that.

Why don't they just come on here and use your selections hobnob. ?? What's in it for them??
Was the previous selections on this thread a trial for us and now we have to pay?
How much do you charge? I'll be happy to empty my bank account for your syndicate.. Will you post me the winnings or do I have to pay for the selections and put my own bets on?
I haven't got time for that
Ask your friends, cheers

Correct, they could.
I literally told them exactly that.
If I am posting here, why not just copy those, makes perfect sense to me as well.

The problem for them is that they are in the US, the hours do not work, which is why they asked.

Not sure about your last part. I am not asking anyone to pay for tips on here and no, I do not want anyone to send me anything.
Perhaps I should have worded myself better @NHughes

I am only looking for advice. I am not even sure it is a good idea to go down that path and I certainly see no reason why forum members should join a syndicate when they are perfectly capable of doing it themselves.

Don't do it.
