Are we in a sea of mediocrity?

After today Envoi Allen and Shishkin might be the only top class jumpers in training. Utter shite all round.

I think the Leop 2 miler will be the race of week.

Unexpecteds absence today was disappointing , him aside irelands novice chasers all look rather average bar the obvious Envoi.

This is/was an interesting thread

Rather than racing being in a sea of medocrity, i see it as a change in what owners want and trainers can attain

Point to point sales have never been as strong (many predicted it would end when Potts passed) but the quality of horse coming through the point fields, especially the Wexford lads is so impressive.

Look at the type of novice hurdlers we have this year and last and this years novice chasers

All huge powerful horses with one purpose - Gold cuppin

It is currently hard to imagine a hurrican fly ending up in a jump yard so 2m hurdling is in a sorry state right now but that could and will eventually change too

For now the point scene is the current nursery of racing and the chasing game at least is strong for teh next 5 years to come

I agree. I’m surprised there isn’t a proper programme of 2 mile points to supplement the existing programme. A case of tradition blinding the authorities from doing the obvious?

The only two and a half mile points are restricted to four year olds too. There’s definitely a case to be made for an overhaul.
