Arkle 2014

Any of you sectional guys got a view as to why Champagne Fever got beat?
Does anybody think Ruby made an error?

he maybe could have gone a little harder early which would have played to CF's strengths a little more..horse needs further really...got out speeded ..

it can only augur well for a campaign at further

Can't have any complaints with the CF ride. Probably thought he had Trifolium to beat, which ofcourse he did. Only to be nailed by the pipe horse. Stood there mouth wide open looking stunned. Something like 'What the f**k has just happened there' came out of my mouth.

The predictable, and unpredictable. That's why we love it.

I think you're splitting hairs EC, it was a good ride, not a bad one. Disagree he got out speeded, the winner got outpaced mid race and then outstayed them (combined with some very good jumping). Scudamore said he was outpaced after the race and his jumping kept him in it.

Just looked into this and WW did run the last half mile very quick. I stand corrected.

Never listen to Scu over EC :D

CF reminds me of Dessie with his bold jumping. And the great grey was tonked in his Arkle.

Yes but Dessie was not much cop left handed- he won the 1989 GC because he was so much better than the rest despite the course . CF loves Cheltenham

Champagne Fever does not shape like a horse with a lack of speed. Those type of horses rarely stay the Gold Cup trip. There is nothing in his running style to suggest his optimum distance isn't 2m to 2m4.

I think it's too early in his chasing career to be too dogmatic about whether or not he'd stay a trip. He doesn't have to lead, as his run at Christmas indicates. And he doesn't have to always go mental fast, as his Supreme run proves. I don't want to bang on about Dessie again but he had a similar bold jumping tearaway style of running in his early days and very few people had him down as a King George winner after his first season chasing. His SP at Kempton in '86 was 16/1.
