Attention All Geeks

Very good

What do you want it for? Browsing, apps, record dirty home movies

Budget?

Do u want 7 inches or 10?

Do you like iTunes?

Is anything you like on the net heavily dependant on flash eg ATR video?

Would you buy refurbished with full warranty?

Are you still reading this?

Barry, don't skimp, IPad. Get IPad2, at least 32gb. No need for wifi. Download skyfire and you can watch flash videos too.

Or, do you have someone in US who could buy for you? Huge price difference..

Not sure actually. I usually wait till i'm at work to watch racing replays.

What do you recommend btw?

All depends on what you want it for

If it's sheer presentation, slickness and ease of use the Ipad is unbeatable

There are issues which put me off using an apple device

-Dependance on Itunes - awful program
-no HDMI video output, no microSD card slot for expanding memory or reading a card with photos from your camera, and USB port for connecting peripherals or memory sticks.
-Principal issue is the difficulty in sourcing content which is downloaded out of Apple sourced marketplaces. Alot more freedom with Android devices

Research research research !!! And nothing beats going into a store and actually trying out the tablet - Apple are good for that if theres one close or JL who normally can be relied on to give impartial and reliable advice (although in teh weeks coming up to xmas stock is going to be low whereever you go!)

I've yet to get into tablets myself, I have an iPhone and I have a portable laptop. Rarely have I found myself needing a middle option. I am considering one for a trip to Colombia in January though.

The Nexus range from Google has been getting rave reviews from tech sites and so called "experts" online and they're doing their best to dislodge Apple from the top of the tree after Apple's recent poor press. Also understand it's easy to switch from iTunes to Google Play very easily now as Google have developed some software which moves everything over for you.

Way cheaper than an iPad but hinges on whether you're an Apple or a Google man and if you're willing to pay the considerable price difference on the iPad for the market leader although many are saying they won't be the market leader in tablets or mobile phones for much longer.

10 inch. For surfing the web. We'd watch YouTube a fair bit and bits and bobs of Atr, 4od, rte player, etc.

Not sure if I use Flash. We'd be willing to spend a few bob on it. Only the best for Mrs. Bull. But no more than fifty quid.

I was hoping to leverage your research. I spent 5 mins looking, and then put on Villa Reading. It's a boring subject.

Fair point. I guess I am just a techno-phobe, and I have made some bad decisions on buying technology in the past. Our laptop is without a space bar or an 'x" key, and I have done a bit of research and it's a minefield.

So any help is appreciated.

Thanks to advice on here, I am typing this on a HTC phone. Hoping to get similar quality advice on here. Most of it so far is helpful.

Saw a Sony Viao Ultrabook at weekend, 849e. Looks incredibly slick.

I've had my iPad3 for a while now and love it but sure I was a bit lazy about learning something else, as most of my kit is Apple based. My ex, though, advised me strongly to look at the Sony as he reckons it's way superior and he would have a lot of knowledge here, as our company writes Apps as well now, so he's looked at them all!

Keep it simple. Market popularity speaks quite well for tablets, I think.

I'd make your decision between IPad2 (don't waste money on 3, it's not better, and bigger) or Nexus (which I don't know enough about but sounds good).

The other one to think about is the Kindle Fire - not really a Kindle but a tablet. A friend likes them. Very nice price too.

Yeah. Food for thought.

I guess I don't like Apple's corporate style...why the hell don't they allow Flash? Must mean I am a Google man....although I am suspicious about companies that attempt to take over the world.

Plenty of Apps you can download that get round the Flash problem.

Because Flash is a buggy piece of **** that kills battery life and is a security nightmare over which Apple (or any other vendor) have no control. Google doesn't support it on Android anymore, either.
