Some of you on here seem to be technology geeks.

My wife is looking for a smart phone. As she doesn't want a screen that breaks easily, she doesn't want an iphone. What is the next best? Sturdy screen would be the number 1 requirement.

I've got a HTC Hero. I think there's a better one from the same firm on the market now but mine is excellent. Only issue is battery life.

The HTC Desire is still considered to be the best all round phone - mainly due to the poor battery life of the HD models - you'll get over twice as long out out a desire than a desire HD.

It's also free on most pay monthly tariffs.

Which OS are you thinking of Bar? I've got a Windows 7 Phone and I would strongly discourage anyone from going anywhere near it. Android appears to be well on the way to domination so if I were you I'd definitely go for an Android phone.

I've got an HTC Desire (standard not HD) and I'd agree that battery life is poor compared to my old brick but I gather that's the case for all smart phones. I guess it depends how much she'd be using it really but I've had mine about a month and I find it really easy to use (unless I've got gloves on!).

bit late but the orange san francisco is excellent for the price (£100 ish).
Only on orange, but unlocking takes about 10 seconds and is free, and plenty of roms you can put on that are better than the standard one.

Why does she eed a strong screen? Cos she keeps throwing at you ?

Ive just bought a HP notebook which works wonderfully well and is very portable

And the fckig screen has cracked after two months . and they say "it is not under warranty"

Carphone warehouse didnt want to know and AN HOUR to a chimpanzee at their call centre in god knows where produced NOTHING excpet a quote of £200 to repair screen. Same cost as computer

DO NOT BUY HP OR FROM CARPHONE WAREHOUSE
