Looks a good card this, and reckon a couple of the races give us a chance to have a couple of bets.

Starting with the Mile.

Mindurownbusiness looks on the short side at 9/4. Obviously going the right way, but it his handicap winning form really much stronger than that put up by Mister Universe. Would give him a chance, and it looks fair ebnough that Sovereign Debt is even shorter, unlucky not to beat him at Wolves when conceding him weight. Genuinely think this is more like a 7/2 the field race rather than a 9/4 jolly.

One that interests me most is Big Baz. He's had one blob in Dubai, but his last run suggests he's over that when he ran on late from a poor position in a Group 2, and he ran a belter first time out there despite 9f just stretching him. I'd say his Newmarket and Kempton wins give him form that matches any of these, has Sovereign Debt behind him at Kempton when winning a fast-track qualifier for this. Conditions likely to be absolutely fine, and on his best he's got as good a chance as any. Definitely think any double figs are worth taking.

3-y-o Sprint

Looks an interesting race too. Gracious John on his best behaviour wins this, but there's so little margin for error over 5f at Lingfield that I want to take him on after his antics last time at around 7/4. Wolowitz is an obvious danger as a progressive horse that has won his 3 starts on AW, but the piece of form that interests me most is the Fast-Track Qualifier won by Quatrieme Ami. That horse looks short enough at around 6s, but I think Sign of the Kodiac is well overpriced at 33s. He's closely matched with the McBride horse on his last 2 runs and surprised there's as much between them as there is. Obviously has a bit to find with the favourites, but never out the first 2 over 5f on AW and looks to have a really good attitude. Can't understand his price in relation to likes of Aguerooo who has been winning some weak races. If we get a bit of luck with the draw he's gonna make a decent first of it. Would have priced him around a 12s chance.

Sure I'll add a few thoughts later in the week.

And all seven races live on Ch4 also, with the attendant Hills Money Back If Second deal ( and most probably Ladbrokes too). :)

It's my intention to be about a bit more again. Looking forward to season ahead.

It's hard to argue against this being one of the better recent initiatives though and it offers a tremendous chance of a day in the sun to the smaller owner/trainer.

Being a predominantly NH fan I don't normally look twice at AW racing but find this a hugely enjoyable day out as I live nearby and with the inclusion of terrestrial TV coverage it offers non-racegoers an alternative to watching Ben Hur for the 1,000th time.

Thought Lancelot Du Lac a good thing for the sprint, but has an awful draw for a prominent racer. Moonlight Landing looks solid compensation @ 5/2 in the Marathon.
Godolphin must think a deal of Race Day's chances in the last, as James Doyle hangs around to ride him - even with a 12.20 booking at Meydan the next day.

Special Season doesn't have much to find on official figures in the last and the race may well be run to suit him with plenty of prominent racers in the line-up.

My selections are

Cold As Ice/Grendisar/Gracious John - trifecta

Rivellino/Anglophile/Captain Cat/Battalion/Race Day - all in three and four fold ew multiples, and an each way five timer.

Also backed as win or ew singles excluding Cold As Ice.

hard races...hard to be confident about any of them...had a each way Canadian on these..and a few guinness's ready

1.40 Saucy Minx
Fav will probably win but this one is nicely priced around 12/1. Amanda Perrett does very well with fillies and mares at Lingfield. Her record is 11/62 showing a profit £41. If just looking at those up to 7f she is 4/11 ..+28. This one won well last time after taking a keen hold so fair to say more to come. Can hit the frame..might win if fav dips.

2.10 Alben Star
The pace in this will be strong which will suit Aben Star. Had no chance last time in a 5f race that suited being near the pace..it wasn't your typical 5f thrash pace in that and after dwelling at start and losing ground on turn ran a marvellous race to only be beaten 3.5 length by pace suited lightscameraction. Can finish for at least a place here. It was a toss up between this one and Realise..think the 6f at this pace could well see Realise be a big player here but the trip could still be an issue for him.

2.40 Anglophile

I've no real views at this sort of trip on the AW..just sticking it in due to Appleby's record with staying types in Class A or B here..his record is 6/12 +17 lsp.

3.15 Captain Joy

Was only a nk behind Sovereign Debt in this last year and the difference in price to that one swings it..this one 16/1. The added bonus is Smullen on board..his record on CJ is 155411321.

3.45 ..not picked owt out as i think Grendisar will win but crap price..nothing appeals at bigger odds

4.15 Aquerooo

Has a bit to find but run style suited here..there is a lot of pace in this..if Wolowitz hadn't been drawn so wide i'd be fancying him but at 3/1 and the wide draw would rather go with Hannons..hopefully can pick a place when those at front have had enough. Wolowitz could be owt and has put up good speed figures so wouldn't be surprised if he overcame the draw..3/1 too skinny though in this field.

4.45

the only one i haven't thrown into the canadian is Haalick..this one looks only one i'd tackle with a little confidence..is the best hoss [luv u Clive:)]..in the race ...and it looks like the pace will be set up perfectly for the late finish. Looks the strongest bet of the day

I own a share in this one so I really hope you are right....

good luck Qzy..you must have had some fun with that little beaut.

its not the AW championship..but....the 2yo race at 3.30 at woves will be avoided like the plague probably by most punters..but there is one interesting stat regarding Sheikh Hamdam...in Mar + April he has had 5 2yr runners on the AW..all 5 have won..he's got sutter county in todays race
