Just from the other thread, whats the best live performance of a single song....if you were there live, watched a recording or just simply heard it?

For me I have downloaded U2 singing "One" live...accoustic version and completely different to how I have heard them sing it before. Dont know when it was sung or even where but its stunning...

Comfortably Numb Pink Floyd Earls Court circa 1980

Won't Get Fooled Again The Who Cornwall Coliseum early 80's

Best atmosphere for whole gig

Thin Lizzy

INXS on Later With Jools Holland singing Never Tear Us Apart. Actually it was just Michael singing with Jools on the piano. It was beautiful. I used to have it on video tape somewhere but we've no video recorder anymore and out of the boxes of tapes we've got I wouldn't even know where to start looking. I'd love to see it again though

In my youth I watched Ocean Colour Scene at the Sanctuary in Bletchley and that was brilliant. REM at Live 8 were fab too. I wasn't a huge fan of REM before that but it made me want to see them again.

OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! *Griffin hyperventilates* OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! I found it on Youtube! The quality is a bit pants but OH MY GOD! Not Jools on piano, I was mistaken, but it was 13 years ago so I'm forgiven. Suicide Blond is there too. Michael was the sexiest man ever to walk this earth :luv:

Sex On Legs!

You like him a bit then ?

I go too far back as used to sneak out to gigs when I was a little critter.

Probably something like The Doors When the Music's Over, or Hendrix Foxy Lady.

Agree Queen were great.

In November it'll be the tenth anniversary of his death cry I would've glady had his babies cry

Oh Grif, poor you. I met Paula Yates a few times as I used to work for a concert promoter. Never got to meet Michael though, sadly .....

Don't think you could beat a Queen gig for that [/b][/quote]
Yeah. I saw them at Elland Road in 1982, very good gig. My first.

Technically speaking - Ultravox doing Vienna

The best live album would be a toss up between the Who at Leeds university and the Jam (but they cheated on 'Dig the New Breed') a personal (and little known fav) will always be Hanx - (name the band and venue?)

Saw Kings Of Leon play in Hammersmith, couple of years back. They were immense, took the roof off the building that night. That was the best gig I went to until I saw Ed Harcourt earlier this year in Bloomsbury, where it was much more of an intimate gig with hundreds of people. Different type of music to Kings Of Leon, different atmosphere, different experience, probably the intimate experience won over, since I was much closer to the front than Kings Of Leon and instead of sharing with thousands, it was hundreds (300max). Harcourt was brilliant, playing various instruments and sang nearly all the 'favourites'. Well favourite to fans given not many have ever heard of him!!

Jet was disappointing, thought they would be much better.

you might laugh but jon bon jovi & bob geldof performing i don't like mondays was pretty damn good.
I clicked on the wrong button Dom, I discovered I was about to "report you" but the words like Bon Jovi??????

Surely in this new world of moderation she should be put on 50% straight away? As regards Boomtown I saw them do that slightly pissed I thought?

Worst band who dissapointed me would be, The Icicle Works, followed by Simple Minds.

Now there's a few references for some of the generation to chase down.

I see no one's got Hanx yet? though I've listened to it twice over now for nostalgia

ed harcourt's very good live - so lomg as he doesn't lose the plot with the audience & chuck his instruments around!

counting crows are always good live - adam duritz likes to vary each live performance.

badly drawn boy & mcalmont & butler were superb live too - as are stereophonics & embrace.

Some good performances mentioned there above but for me this is so hard having been to many festivals over the last 8 years and going to many gigs i have narrowed it down though to these.

Muse - Newborn
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - By The Way
Stereophonics - Just Looking
Ash - Girl From Mars
Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars

I have to say I agree with you. I downloaded that version years ago.

Mercury Rev performing "The Dark is Rising" at Glastonbury while the sun went down, as the NME said "the world made sense at that moment"

For me, Radiohead have been the best live act that I have seen - on their OK Computer tour before they got all weird.

Saturday Night by Whigfield (a very good group), performed at the San Siro stadium in Barcelona.

I think the Barmy Army have some catching up to do with the Plano East supporters club band.

Hey Baby

Eye of the Tiger

They also had to sit through one of the best sporting comebacks of all time only to blow it at the last minute......... Tyler v Plano East. Make sure you watch it through to the end - and listen to Bo and Luke on commentary. Absolute comedy.
