Bet Victor Gold Cup Cheltenham Sat Nov 17th

we should start a thread for the Henn...sorry Ladbrokes Trophy!

Yeah Ladbrokes and others have won enough off those FOBT machines to sponsor many races for a very long time! What year did they actually start putting those things in high street shops? The year they declared psychological warfare on poor people seeking to be less poor!

What odds they start buying up Islands far far away, with their profits, name them 'Ladbrokes Island', then turn them into new Nevada's.

Fixed odds machines with a built in mathmatical edge, alledgedly throwing 'random' numbers. This was a recipe for printing money by the truck load. This very concept is like playing the lottery, then watching Jimmy Saviile fiddle the Lottery machine beforehand by adding another 30 new numbers to the 49 already in there. No wonder the profits have been so immense for bookmakers...

Cracking down on them the best thing the Tory government have done in office for sure.

Indeed, DO......I was talking cobblers.......my arrows for BVGC are Kalondra and Casablanca Mix.

El Bandit is my early Hennessy arrow, along with Step Back.

For the Hennessy my first route would involve second-season chasers with Grade 1 potential and although last year's inaugural running under the new sponsorship and, if memory serves, significantly enhanced money, followed the pattern, I wouldn't be at all surprised if certain operations decided before last year's race that it would be worth spending a year getting the handicap mark of a Grade 1 horse down a fair bit.

Still, there's plenty of water to flow under the bridge before it comes to that.

Ratings for qualification for the Betvictor Gold Cup published this Tuesday (6th Nov) and the weights published a week later (Tues 13th)

How did we leave it go off 3/1. Sometimes as punters we think too much. Why worry about the Hennessey when he's 3/1 in a boat race.

[emoji23] had in mind to back him, big circle around him- yet went for the skelton improver after watching interview about chtbellos chances in previous race

Arghhhhhhh

Mister Whitaker my strongest fancy. He is a worthy favourite. I hope he runs well. At a much bigger price, I am considering the Skelton horse Cobra De Mai. His strike rate over fences is 5/11 which is good. He came right back to his best form last time out. He is still only six years of age, so could find a lot of improvement carrying a nice low weight. I will hold fire until final declarations on Thursday, but I am tempted by the 33/1.

Rather Be is weighted to reverse Close Bros form quite comfortably.
I like him, Kalondra and Western Approach who I thought ran a cracker fto considering how keen he was for most of the race. This step down in trip will suit.

Rather Be's last two bits of work reported to be good having been slow to come to hand. Don't shoot the messenger :ninja::lol:

Kalondra has been backed into single-figures in places over the last few days. I hope the confidence isn’t misplaced!

Kings Socks is one I have my eye on for this weekend, hopefully for the Chase on Friday. He is still only a six year old and was far from disgraced in fifth place at The Festival before falling at Aintree. He could be a force to be reckoned with, I await to see what race they declare him for. The bookies aren't taking any chances, most firms have him at 6/1 for the Chase on Friday which is way too short. I reckon if declared he will be double digit prices nearer to racetime.

I've done an initial trawl of my figures for the race. There are a few things I want to check over (older form, videos etc) before I put anything on here but I'd say those who got on Kalondra at nice prices can look forward to the race. The betting looks all over the place this evening and I don't see anyone going NRNB so far.

There are a few on my radar I was half-expecting to be on offer at 50s or so but the bookies are giving nothing away, I don't think. It's all very disappointing and I'll probably just wait until the weekend now, unless Paul Kealy puts up one of mine on Wednesday. At least he'll probably have checked with connections to see if he's likely to get a run.

Re - Rather Be & Mister Whitaker. Tigger's and Euro might turn out to be right. I have a soft spot for Mister Whitaker as I won on him last March, so I'd prefer to see him win. I still can't get my head around whether to back Mister Whitaker at 7/1 or Kings Socks at 14/1 though.
